Does anybody have any idea who came up with this ugly pattern in iOS and in Lion, ML? I hate the grey, but don't mind the black pattern across the ui. And the white linen looks fine on the apple site.

Was it Forstall? I hope it was so I'm not too sorry about him leaving next year. But, I actually like him though, will be sad to see him go.

Actually linen has been around since Mac OS X Tiger with the introduction of widgets, but it was so hidden so people didn't complain much. I do agree linen looks tacky and annoying.

I actually like the linen. At least it's consistent: notification centre, multitasking bar, folders, and siri.
In my opinion, it would be nicer if they changed the linen to the material used in the Reminders app (the black material).

I really don't see what the big deal is with the linen. It looks fine to me. A standard, non-textured, dark grey background would be pretty ugly to me.
