Having seen a friend's Android phone that has an under-display camera, I think that approach of having a not-totally-perfect screen over the camera is a better trade off than having a permanent black hole punch for the camera.

These screens are from a MacRumors video (because of copyright), so you can't really tell in some parts.

But in videos by other YouTubers, the under-display camera stands out even more and looks way worse (depends on the focus and viewing angle).

I’m less concerned about how it looks and more concerned about how it will perform. Several people that were at the event mentioned it being very low quality.

I’m more concerned about the matte screen. I prefer vibrant colors, and a matte screen will interfere with that

It looks from reflections that the matte screen has a glossy cut out on top of the camera. Can that be?

A thousand times better than a hole or island. It'll get better as the technology improves. It's mostly 'cos the screen is matte and the hole has to be unfettered.

Can you see where the camera is, in certain lighting conditions and at certain viewing angles? Undoubtably.

Will it really make a difference in viewing content and using the device? Time will tell.

looks fine in normal usage. i think apple did it right if you want to use that camera use your main camera and who uses this for anything but facetime really?
