Hi all this is my first post and i'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to computers so bear with me. i've just inherited a old iMac G4 with no install disks. it's running 10.2.2!! so what i want to do is upgrade it to 10.4

i have the tiger install disks but when i try to run it the mac asks me for a password but my friend can't remember the password because it was so long ago. Is there any way round this? i have searched other threads but i couldn't find anything that matches my situation. thanks for the help people

I think Tiger included a disk utility on the boot disk. Boot from the disk and go to Utilities>Disk Utility in the top menu bar after you select the language. You can format (erase) the drive from here without a password.

There are two ways that to require a password in this situation. I'll tell you about the simple one, if it doesn't work then post back here.

The Mac is asking for the administrator password.
Restart the computer with the tiger disc inside and hold the c key, if that doesn't work, try the option key, then select the cd to boot from.

Once booted from the cd/DVD, you should be able to upgrade without a password.

You should also reset the admin password to your own when booted of the DVD or even wipe the internal drive to start fresh, without your friends data or user account. I recommend the latter.
