So only the new Apple TV allows you to have an App Store so you can download apps? WHY has Apple become such a money hungry, take every penny company trying to milk everyone? EVERY. SINGLE. NEW. DEVICE. is needed in order to have the basic features now just like the M1 iMacs they just released.

Simply because of this stupid ass design I am no longer upgrading my perfectly fine Apple TV for a new one. Instead, I am getting rid of it for the Amazon Firestick 4k. Way to keep losing customers Apple.

Was there a point to this rant?
Without the AppStore how do you expect to add apps to the ATV?
And not all Apps cost $$, many are free... All the streaming apps are free (from Apple) some do have a subscription cost, but seriously... that is to be expected.

I never said that. I said the Apple TV doesn’t have an App Store unless u buy the NEW Apple TV.

That is so NOT TRUE.... I have two ATV both a few years old, and the AppStore is available and has been since day one
How? And where? I don’t have the App Store icon and I did a search it said only the Gen 4 has an App Store and previous gens only get apps that Apple pushes out to it.

Yeah don’t get the issue as it’s nothing new at all, my ATV4 has had an App Store for the past 5 years.
The ATV4K(1st Gen) is almost 4 years old already so again nothing new there either.

Well OP, don't let the door hit you on the backside on your way out! Or just buy one of the three newer models and enjoy. Curious why it took you 8 years to even notice. The Fire TV Cube is pretty good, I have the 2nd gen. The sticks, not so much. They tend to overheat if you don't install them with enough airspace to cool off sufficiently. But even though the Fire TVs are good, the gen 4 and newer ATVs are much better. If you do switch to Fire TV, get ready to be constantly annoyed with suggestions of which programs to watch, few of which are free, even if you have Prime Video. And get ready for a über cluttered interface...

The 3rd gen Apple TV is about 8 years old and has never supported the app store. Yes, you may have to buy a new Apple TV every decade to access the newest features.
