Any news on the support for 10bit color (i.e. 1 billion colors rather than 16.7 million colors)?
(like all new iMacs do, since 2015, and MBPs, since 2016, for external monitors)

I believe the newer Intel TB3 controllers support DP1.4, which supports it, as I understand it. Not sure if the HDMI port would though.

10-bit color support does not depend on the port, but on the (i)GPU and driver. On Windows you'd need a workstation dGPU, but on macOS even iGPUs like the iris plus 540/550/640/650/655 in the 2016/17/18 MBP 13" support it. Hence my hope the UHD 630 on macOS will do too.

It is a little strange that the Mini tech specs only specify the resolution but not the colour depth for attachable displays … usually this information is included in the tech specs of Macs.

that's why I hope(d) someone has by now actually hooked up a 10-bit color capable monitor to test it ...

edit: still on the phone with Apple support about it

Ok, from what I can tell, my 2018 Mini is outputting 10-bit color:

Granted, my monitor only does dithered 10-bit and not true 10-bit, but it appears to be working properly when I open Netflix's 10-bit test pattern (go to "Season" 4, episode 1):

Great! I got a similar confirmation from Dr. Stealth. That makes the MM2018 i3 by far the cheapest computer that supports 10-bit color, i.e. 1 billion colors in stead of 'just' 16.7 million colors for 8-bit.
Apple's Photos and Preview support it too, so you don't even need Photoshop.
Windows PCs need workstation GPUs for 10-bit color...

BTW, Gimp 2.10 can do 10-bit too now (and is free).
