this is driving me mad.

basically any action that has a UI sound is delayed by a second if that action hasn't been performed in the last 30 seconds.

i didn't realize it was the sound that was causing the delay until i saw this thread

if you haven't experienced it you can see it in this video

keep in mind that delay happens for everything with a UI sound - first deleted file, first ichat message, first screenshot, first volume adjust, etc.. then the rest perform fine until you wait 30 seconds.

whatever you're trying to do doesn't happen until after the os finds and plays the sound file.

does anyone else have this problem, and how did you fix it?
 
I've got a very similar problem - but it only occurs when I start up my Mac, and only when I turn the volume on after it's been muted. There's a 2-second delay before the sound plays. I presume this is because my Mac is busy doing something else at the time.

In your case, I suspect something screwy with Core Audio, the audio system in Mac OS X, as the root cause (for example, you have some Audio Unit that activates on every sound played, and takes a while to initialize itself).
