After the 18 month contract is up, if you don't continue with O2 or any provider, will the iPhone other functions still work? In other words, would you still be able to use it like an iPod Touch? Will the iPod bits still work? Will the Wifi still work, safari etc?

Or does it go back to a blank screen waiting to be activated?

Yes, it will still work. You will then just have to renew a contract etc etc… but then again who knows what will happen 18 months hence?

Yes, with no SIM, the iPhone is basicly an iPod Touch. Once the 18 months is up just renew the contract, or go PAYG to keep the phone functions.

(You could have found out yourself by removing the SIM)
