I just went to Carphone Warehouse to get my iPhone 3G, and they tried to automatically sign me up for there "lifeline" insurance thing! The worst thing is, they wouldnt even sell the the phone without it!

I went to the O2 shop and they sold me the iPhone 3G and guess what they did - they asked me if I wanted the insurance! And actually sold me the phone without it!

Also, CPW asked for my address etc. whereas O2 just asked for my name.

Or, do what I did and cancelled the insurance within the allotted time.

I upgraded my original iPhone to the 3G, via CPW, over the phone, Nearl 3 months ago.
Yes they asked for insurance, all you have to say is yes or no, lol.
My 3G was delivered the next day. :D

Wonder if this is something new they are doing

I bought my 3G from CPW and they asked if I wanted insurance, I said no and that was it, came out with a new phone

Oh yes....They tried the hard sell on me. I had to say NO about 6 times before they gave up. I told them that the O2 insurance is cheaper....they argued that it isn't!! I also told them that I already have insurance and they still tried to flog it to me!! gits!
~£12 a month from CPW
£7.50 per month on O2

ermmm.......??

The problem is that the sales team make most of their commission on accesories.

I bought mine from CPW....although when i went up to the counter i said to the guy "All I want is a white 16gb iPhone 3G, no cases, no accesories, no insurance, just give me the phone and the contract"....he didn't offer me insurance :)

Yes, I bought mine in O2 shop and declined the insurance. I asked the sales rep if anybody actually took it up and she said "all the time". I've put mine on the household insurance instead.
