Hi all

Question is in the title really - Can I buy AppleCare for a 2nd hand Mac mini after 60 days (but before the 1 year warranty is up)?

Thanks!

Probably not. I believe Apple has tightened the 60-day requirement again. Was the second hand Mac an Apple refurb? That's really the only used/refurb status that allows a user access to buy AC+ for it. If it is an Apple refurb, you could contact the Applecare Admin team to ask for a definitive answer.

Ah sorry, I should've been clearer. I'm thinking of getting one off eBay.

Back in the day I'd buy a Mac off eBay that was still within it's 1 year AppleCare warranty and be able to extend the AppleCare just fine, but I'm reading conflicting reports online nowadays.

If you're talking about the 1 year limited hardware warranty (versus buying used with existing AC+ coverage), Apple says it has to be done within 60 days of purchase. But again, call the AC Admin Team to get the definitive answer, and post it back here which might help others too. There was a period when Apple seemed to have loosened that restriction, and perhaps it was Covid-related due to stores being closed, but I don't have all those details.

Added: Hang on, apparently depending on one's region, it may be possible to buy an Applecare Protection Plan (different than AC+ in the US and elsewhere) up to 1 year from the original purchase date:

"In some countries and regions, you can buy an AppleCare Protection Plan within 1 year of your purchase of an eligible Mac, Apple TV, or other device."
