Anyone know what the stores profit is on a macbook (in general)? I would'nt have thought it was more than 10% on a new model..

I guess you have to set off any saving against the down-side of buying from Currys. They're not the best company to deal with if something goes wrong with your product, in my experience.

This! At least wait for John Lewis to show their hand!

Currys treat you with distain with returns AVOID buy from John Lewis they will Price Match Currys plus JLP give FREE 2nd year and sometimes FREE 3rd year warrantee AND treat you with RESPECT.

But with Applecare in addition to UK consumer laws, what's the problem?

In principle, you're right. However, that doesn't account for the difficulty of enforcing those rights with a less than cooperative retailer.

Many of the complaints on this forum would probably not be viewed as faults by Currys: yellowish tint, erratic battery estimates, etc.

With Apple or John Lewis, returns are much simpler. And John Lewis are a cooperative who pay tax in this country :)

The only good reason for PC world and Curry is to go in the store and ask these questions and secretly record the hilarious responses

- Hi I want to buy a GeForce 2MX.
- Hi I saw only the Smart Samsung Microwave Oven with built in Freeview HD tuner. When is it coming in stock?
- Hi have you got the new Sony Blackmagic Video Beatbox?
- Where is the curry?

I don't have a John Lewis near me, so not sure if they do actually price match, as technically this a cash back offer, not a discount. Curry's aren't the greatest and most reliable company in the world, but they had this cash back offer a few years ago when I got my iPad. With most things, as long as nothing goes wrong (which doesn't seem the case with all these MacBook Pro reports) you'll be okay. You can still buy from Curry's and take it into the Apple Store with a problem, just can't return it there incase you don't like it, which Curry's doesn't allow if its opened, I think.

Their margins aren't great, I imagine. Even though 10% back is a nice chunk, you'll have to keep in mind these cash back offers are always a bit convoluted. You buy the MacBook now, and it gives you a time window to go claim the cash back. When I got my iPad, it was 2 weeks in the month after I had to claim it. People forget, lose their receipt etc, so cannot claim the cash back. This claws back some of their margin.

I personally am skipping this generation anyway, but for people who are on the edge about the price, especially with the UK, and don't mind shopping with Curry's, this is a great offer. It at least absorbs the price increase over last gen.

One thing with JL though, they send repairs away to a service agent and they often take weeks.

I know where they send them, it's to an electronics repair factory in Oldham. Not sure if they are Apple certified but I certainly wouldn't want them servicing my Mac, they also fix anything electronic for the likes of people like Richersounds.

Give them a ring, you get 7 days where you get the difference refunded if they drop the price.
I had the same happen to me with an OLED, quick call and £300 back in the bank. ;)

Hi
Apple repaired our logic board on iMac 21.5" under apple care (18 months old) but use a 3rd party repairer. Apple said they were 'better than apple'!
It appears apple only repair if you take the item in store which was not ideal.

The reason I bought my 2015 rMBP from JLP (which I swapped 3 times due to changing speck - not a blink of an eye by their staff on each of the 3 occasions).....
They are offering a 2nd and 3rd year FREE warrantee this knock Curry's out of the ball park IMHO
• apple care cost £229 for 13" or £339 for 15" believe me you want 3 year warrantee.

No JLP or Waitrose nearby buy ONLINE.

I will know if JLP price match within 24 hours - will post back so hold off on Curry's purchase just for now.
