Seems like they’ve changed their policy. Went in today and handed over the watch, they claimed that I would have to purchase the series 7 there and then, that they would generate a code to be user over the till to deduct the price by £100 and could not offer me a gift card. Incidentally they had no watches in stock anyway so they said best they could do was to place a backorder. I took the watch back and left the store.

They could offer 50% off the price but as they haven't got any watches, all that achieves is getting people into the store. I suspect that was the aim all along. If it's too good to be true......................

Currys seems to have had a restock!
Gone! I nearly went for it, until I read the small print and decided that my reluctance to buy anything from Currys was confirmed. Not sure if I'm right but don't you have to pay full price when you order and then get a voucher when you take your old watch to the store? It doesn't say they will reimburse the £100 for this purchase. It implies you get £100 off some other subsequent purchase. If I'm wrong, that's great for those that took up the offer. I still don't like Currys though. Also, how well would they handle a problem with your watch 9 or 10 months down the road?

It must of changed as I just took my series 0 in and got a voucher for £100 and used that voucher to buy an iPad mini.

The terms are pretty straight forward and I don’t know why people are moaning

  • Trade in your old working Apple Watch, and get at least £100 off the new Apple Watch Series 7.
Old Apple Watch must be in working condition. Trade-in value will be received via a BACS transfer if you trade-in online and via a Currys gift card if you trade-in instore. Offer not available in conjunction with any other offer. Subject to availability. Please check full terms and details at www.currys.co.uk/tradein.

I’ve got mine coming to the store on Tuesday.

It might be complicated but I hope to process a return, trade in my series 2, and then buy it again with gift card.

Might get a few funny looks but can’t see why they won’t let me do that.

No ones moaning my friend. I have based my comments on buying from Currys, on past negative experiences. If you read the whole terms and conditions it implies, if you buy in-store, that you get a voucher. It does not say that you can use that voucher to purchase the watch, which you have previously paid full price for. As I said, I hope it all works out for those who took the deal and Currys will support you if any problems occur in the warranty period. I have had great service when dealing direct with Apple stores. They have even gone beyond what they are obliged to do.

It says “get at least £100 off the new Apple Watch Series 7”. It doesn’t say get a gift card as cash back.

It works like this: trade in old watch —>receive £100 gift card —> redeem gift card against new watch

Good. As I said, I hope it all works for you.

I agree. Curry’s customer service is generally poor.

To clarify. I traded in my series 0 Apple Watch and got £100 gift card. I didn’t want a series 7 anyway and non in stock at the time. I checked the code and it worked against any product they sell so got £100 off an new iPad mini 6.

That worked out well for you but I thought their website said the £100 only applied if you bought a series 7 watch.

Tried this again in store and they flat out refused to provide a gift card. Watch needs to be ordered in store at same time as trade in and if they don’t have stock your order goes on a waiting list

So did I but code worked.
At least they gave you a code to take away: they are refusing to do this now and insisting the series 7 order (if no stock) be done in store. They do it for you and refuse to disclose the code being used

It could be because they have discovered the bug in their system, that the code is not tied to a S7 and could be used on anything when ordering online.

I tried to use the code on buying an iPad just to simulate the scenario and the website allowed me and gave the discounted price for payment.

For an online order, i can’t find info whether a charger and straps needs to be included too?
