You’d think that if the EID was replaced on the data plan that the watch would no longer be attached to that plan.

I’m planning on trading mine in to CEX today so I’ll see what happens.
Ok keep us posted. When i transferred from my S4 to S5 (Unpair, keep data plan, etc), I sold my S4 to CEX and they called me to come back in as it wouldnt pair to a new phone. Something to do with the data plan still being associated with the S4.

My thoughts are to pair the new watch before unpairing the old watch and transfer the data plan. Then rather than unpair the old watch with the phone...instead use the watch to factory reset itself without using the phone and remove the data plan when it offers the option

Just in case this is a first time with CEX for you, you will want to take the original box with all the contents to get a chance of the Grade A assessment.

I would also recommend taking photos of the device in store before handing it over to be ‘checked’ by their team. When I tried to sell them an iPhone 7 Plus they rejected it ‘because the SIM tray wouldn’t close’. It was perfect when I gave it to them, they had twisted the gasket on it! Fortunately I was able to sort it out then sold the device on privately. But it was a horrible customer experience.

Selecting keep data plan means the data plan remains on your old watch. With EE, i selected remove data plan during unpairing, then when setting up new watch you get offered the existing data plan. You will still get the 003 error but this is simply because you need to tell EE your new EID number.

If you are getting rid of your old watch would suggest using the remove data plan - this does not remove it from your account.

Yes that makes complete sense. Removing the data plan from your watch should not delete the data plan agreement with EE and EE should be able to transfer it to your new watch via the EID number. There is something that remains on your old watch if you don't remove the data plan.

Yeah I found an EE data plan on my old watch that was labelled as expired.

I’ve removed that and then unpaired the watch again.

Didn’t affect my new watch or the data plan on that.
