Call me cynical, but the guy just found £10k? He didn't have a JCB parked outside did he? With a few bricks and a NatWest sign in the bucket?

Someone in my town won like £250,000 on the Races about 2 months ago.

Went out in the street and chucked £25K up in the air.

It was shown all over the TVs nationwide. He hasn't been I.D'd to this day.

My friend scooped up £600. Bitch.

i'm really on the fence now wether to go to heriot watt or retake some maths and reapply to cam/ed/UCL/imperial next year, i could totally get an A in maths if i retook the couple of modules i screwed up due to eye strain, and probably retake a physics paper or two and push that up to an A.

Oxbridge is a lot harder work than other Uni's, one of my friends at Oxford has to work crazily hard, certainly compared to me at Warwick, which is a pretty good University.

Bah Humbug!!

I remember when A-levels were A-levels - none of these 'modules' with their forty minute exams and resits to improve your grade, but proper 3-4 hour exams that tested your understanding of the subject...

<...stumbles away, mumbling something about the youth of today...>

given that i basically winged electronics did no work and payed no attention and got an A i hunger for work, maths and physics bored me due to the lack of challenging work, thus got bored to hell doing exercises.

ABC....easy as 123 ;)

A in graphics
B in maths
C in chemistry (nuffield)

And it would appear I've been accepted into Southampton Univeristy :D

Well done s0x™. What's the course going to be?

So far I have found my university exams way more difficult than I ever found my A-levels. The sheer volume of things you have to know for a undergraduate exam far outweighs what I ever had to know at A-level. And the reading....bleugh! Now I don't want to get back to uni :( .

Then again, I guess there are too many variables to make an accurate comparison. It depends on what you took at A-level, what you took at university, what university you went to, etc, etc.

I found the complete opposite. 57 exams and now a Master of Engineering :p

Thank god there are no exams on my PhD :D

That's funny, considering my degree was in Engineering too :) Perhaps Engineering degrees are just easy.......

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Sometimes I kill myself, really I do.

@ Hector

DUde, can I reccommend UCL as a choice, its a cracking Uni ;)

To everyone else, WELL DONE!!! I crapped bricks when I got my results last year, but it all paid off; starting my second year at Uni next month!! You guys enjoy yourseves!! Don't listen to the politician w**nkers who say they're all too easy, I'd like to see them sit through Chemistry, Maths etc :mad:

Cheers

i don't really want to stay in london, though my main decision is to take a year out and turn my D into an A or weather to just go to heriot watt and be done with it.

My older sister got her results today. A A D Everyone got a D for DT in her school, it looks like they've done something really wrong...
Just do what they would do here in California and sue the crap out of the school and/or exam board.

Edit: oh and congratulations to all of you who passed ... I think that was all of you ... not like that in my day ...

Woops, forgot that, the course is Computer Science ;)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hampshire/4390048.stm

. Hope they're rebuilt since then!

On the topic of A-levels being too easy I think the depth of material on the subject-level is fine it's just that there are too few subjects required and no width (eg, requiring a second language, a social science and etc.). For my high school diploma I took the International Baccalaureate and had these obligations:

3 subjects higher (Maths, Physics, History)
3 subjects standard (French, English, IT)
A 4,000 essay on a topic of my choosing
180 hours of community service
Large projects in each of the 6 subjects.

My exams came to 24 hours and no modular retakes are possible.

I started at university (Computing: AI) a year ago and saw that many A-level students had the ability to do very well (and of course many did) but quite a few lacked the attention spans and commitment sometimes.
I think were used to being able to drop the subjects they didn't like, rather than being exposed to a more rounded high school diploma.

Haha, yeah, they showed us it when I went down on an invitation day, though It was more the electronics engineering that was more damaged than the computer science department (same building).

However, I just got my confirmation letter from UCAS to say I've got the place at southampton...sent the reply back ASAP! And congratulations to everyone else.

Fantastic results! I had a friend today get AAAAAB, and she was gutted about the B... work that one out!

Your sister will have the best time in Leeds, it's a great place to live, and a great place to be a student. Hope she enjoys it!

Subliving.

Well, I had AAAB (we all take 4 subjects in my school in Singapore), and I was in the bottom half of my school with those grades. Nonetheless, I managed to get back into the University of British Columbia, back at home in Canada, so I'm fine with it.

But no longer am I gonna get Bs for my subjects.

Well the reason that A-levels aren't spread widely is because of the schools. When Blair came in, they tried to widen the A-levels to six (like the Bac). This was pulled down to 4 by the schools. My school year was the dummy year. Most unis (if not all) require only 3 A-levels. Guess what? Most students drop their fourth A-level in their final year, leaving themselves with 3 subjects. Furthermore, 4 A-levels is perfect for most people. I study medicine, and I am pretty unique much in that I did 3 sciences and French. Most people did biology, physics, chemistry and maths, dropping maths 'coz its bloody hard at A-level. THIS is why we're stuck with the current system

I got AAB which I was really pleased with, couldn't believe it.

I'm off to Lancaster to do BBA Management...can't wait! :D

Well done to everyone else with their results.

A-levels ... happy days

Although it was four years ago now I remember it well; I got AABB - and was quite pleased - except for my maths B. I didn't need maths for Biochemistry (don't know why), and my previous results were so good there was no way I wouldn't get an A. So I thought I'd switch off in the last few months, then missed the A grade by 2 marks (out of 600). Then I had to re-learn it all cos I changed to Physics and everyone else had done further maths!

No ways are they getting easier - but I do think knowing exam technique is half the battle won. Well done everyone - and don't take any rubbish; you worked hard for those grades.

I only did one A-level....because I live in Scotland :p

We do the equivalent of Highers and Advanced Highers up here, I got AAABB last year which got me an unconditional offer into Strathclyde when I was in 6th year (left this year). Suffice to say I only achieved a BBC this year for my advanced subjects due to lack of concentration :p the C was for an Advanced Higher though! apparently equal to the first year of uni...so its not too bad :D

The A-level was for Chinese, I achieved a B overall. Quite weird how it's split into two parts of AS and A-level and then combined, is that the same for most other subjects down south?

Hey guys, it's so odd because we made a thread like this last year and I was included. Now a year on, I'm entering my second year of Bath uni and you lot are starting! Weird!
