£1100 for the Pro in the UK compared to $999 in the US - rip-off Britain. I was primed to pre-order but I don't like being taken for a ride.

It takes nothing of the sort. eSIM is pretty much instant.

On Friday I received a temporary phone from Amazon so I could send mine to Music Magpie

The key thing is YOU MUST have your old phone available and active as EE send an SMS to your old SIM (old phone if it is an eSIM or any phone with the physical SIM in) to activate the new eSIM.

  • Old phone - log in to EE app > Settings > Device and SIM > Replacement SIM > eSIM
  • Choose that you are moving to a new device
  • The eSIM QR code will be shown on screen
  • On new device scan the QR code and add the eSIM (the phone number will show 00000000000)
  • On the old phone click on activate SIM card, it will be there after you have scanned the QR code
  • Wait for SMS to arrive and type in the number (autofill should have the number for you to select)
  • Old device will lose signal and new device will gain signal
  • Turn the line off and then on again and the phone number should update to your number
Mine took no more than 30 seconds to transfer across. It took longer for me to dig out the ejector tool, take the case off, remove the SIM and place in new device for the physical line I have on the device as well.
Hi

Thanks for this explanation, I am currently using a physical sim with my iPhone 12 Pro, planning to upgrade to the 14 Pro Max and have decided to switch to eSIM as I think it’s likely all future iPhones will be eSIM only considering they have removed the sim tray from the US models this year.

So am I correct in thinking that I first just need to set up my new iPhone, keep my SIM card in my old iPhone whilst doing this, then follow your steps.

Also could I ask if there is a charge to do this, I have read online that EE charge 50p to do it?

Also do you have to wait for the eSIM to be posted or anything, or is it just instant from within the app.

Also does it matter if I order a replacement eSIM even though I am currently using a regular SIM card.

@Jinjin suggested trying to convert it by speaking to Live chat. I’m going to try once I move mine from saved to checkout. Won’t be doing it just yet though.

Have you tried yet and managed to change to smartdrop?

I haven’t yet either as waiting until next week, when I get 14.

Thanks

Didn’t need to go onto Live Chat in the end as I found a saved quote that I’d forgotten about, re-saved it and when I take it through checkout next week I know the option is there to choose SMARTDrop.

Remind me, you’ve been through check out already haven’t you?
