Wanted to share this in case anyone else is thinking of using a smart kiosk for selling their old phone.

Took my iPhone 14 Pro Max to the Musicmagpie 'Smart Drop' Kiosk in ASDA. Went through the instructions, agreed to the offer it swallowed my phone and then all of a sudden a windows logo appears... the Kiosk crashed, restarted and then turned back on but without my phone and no payment!!!

I tried calling the number on the kiosk, but kept getting cut off after 10 minutes, 40 minutes later after pacing the ASDA foyet like a madman I finally manage to speak to someone via WhatsApp, they were extremely unhelpful and blunt. Told me to 'be patient', when I explained I had been trying to speak to someone for nearly an hour, and then 10 minutes later told me they would have to 'do a manual payment' and I will get my money in the next few days... but refused to refund the 'Kiosk fee of £30!' The whole point of using the Kiosk was the instant payment, otherwise I would have just posted it!! Unreal!

Awful customer service- avoid like the plague!!

Always seems to be issues with the kiosks. I’ve never used it personally but every year people have issues so I won’t ever use one. That said MusicMagpie are usually good via the post in options. Just waiting on them processing mine. Fingers crossed 🤞

Why is everyone using screen protectors these days? Don’t think I’ve ever felt the need to use one on an iPhone, I just make sure not to put keys, coins etc in the same pocket as my phone

Because I don’t wanna fork out for Applecare which is added cost, and that’s not even including the excess fees

I’ve had most generations of the iPhone and only dropped my phone 3 or 4 times. In 2 out of those cases, the screen protector took the damage and i only needed to pop in another one.

Also micro-scratches irritate me. And leaving keys/coins out of pocket isn’t enough. People underestimate how much grit or grime can infiltrate clothing/bags etc.

Lastly, there’s trade-in/resell value to consider.

Nothing whatsoever. Still shows processing with a delivery date of 20/09/24

I called and spoke to them yesterday under the pretence that I just need to know to arrange for someone to be home.

They told me “we can’t look into it until it’s 3 working days past the delivery day”

Frustrating to say the least.

On top of this I was trying to cancel the Apple watch data plan as I’m not using it and they can’t do that either as the watch is associated the number being upgraded.

I’m at a loss for words

It's the sheer lack of consistency that has angered me.

I've been told so many contradicting statements.
From what I can work out, Apple haven't been able to deliver the unexpected demand, and a lot of people were in a two year cycle this year and were due to upgrade naturally.

It's the first time the O2 website had broken for abotu 4 years for me, but definitely the first time they've not told me there was a delay and allowed it to be 'stuck' on processing.

i use a zagg privacy invisible shield never had any issues with them and my 15 pro max screen as survived a few phone drops and shield is still intact.

Did you pay the kiosk fee by credit card? If so, once they have paid for the phone, open a dispute/chargeback for the £30.

I’ve tried on 2 separate phone transfers. I didn’t manage it.

I’m not with O2 or EE but according to Apple they both support eSIM quick transfer from the support article. O2 must have taken a step backwards in their eSIM support. Hope you manage to get it sorted quickly and with ease.

False equivalence of the highest order. In the car, you are also vulnerable to other people hitting you, or your tyre blowing, or skidding on diesel, and a number of other variables. And in the event of an incident, you could die. And if you don't wear a seatbelt and the insurance company finds out, they won't pay out.

In comparison, modern phone screens have been designed to be resilient enough for normal use.

I don't pay for AC on my phone.

I’ve had most generations of the iPhone and only dropped my phone 3 or 4 times. In 2 out of those cases, the screen protector took the damage and i only needed to pop in another one.

I've had iPhones since the 6 Plus and never used a screen protector, also never cracked or damaged the screen. Screen protectors are far more likely to crack and scratch IME, which can give us the false sense of dread that had we not used it, the phone screen would have identical damage.

Yeah I get a lot of dust and lint inside the case, but it's never damaged the screen in any way.

I sell all of my phones and never had any complaints from private sellers. If I trade-in with Apple, they give me the full amount offered and never say the screen has scratches.

To be clear, I'm not telling people not to use protectors. I'm just curious why they seem so popular when the screen itself is far more durable than they used to be.

Not sure what was going wrong, but did anyone else have issues placing screen protectors on?

I had both my wife’s and mine to stick on and was having a right mare, there was quite a few bubbles I couldn't get rid of on each phone

No matter how / way I tried to squeeze the little brats out they wouldn’t go, now normally I’m really good at this job and thought they must be tiny speckles of dust as the bubbles normally squeeze out eventually.

This was about 8pm at night so decided to leave the bubbles till the morning

Lo and behold the bubbles had disappeared when we got up in the morning and now have perfect screens…

Very odd, and this has never happened before on previous Gens. 😃

I had a few bubbles with my ESR (the one where you put the frame on and just pull a tab) but got rid of them with some gentle hairdryer and elbow grease treatment.

Which is it? Low demand suggests stock sitting somewhere, no phone suggests the opposite.

Looks like I will have to visit o2 tomorrow once phone arrives. If possible I am going to ask for a physical SIM card to replace e sim.

Good job of cutting out the rest of my comment. Yes, someone else can damage your phone, but let's please not pretend it's remotely similar to other drivers. The chances of someone doing anything with my phone other than possibly dropping it are vanishingly small unless it's being loaned to them.

yeah, it says that on the website and you can try and start the esim transfer process on the phones but it always gives an error and says to contact o2. i am also going to go in store today and ask to be changed to a physical sim if possible.

I bloody hope mine changes to shipped soon, you can probably register on dpd app, normally shows on there.

You need to contact them by phone or in app chat using myo2 app and specifically ask for eSIM transfer and they will disconnect the old eSIM and issue a new one in the Myo2 app.

Then you download and sign into the myo2 app on new phone and install the eSIM.

Did this on Friday.

I think its all UK Carriers, a few friends across other networks are in the same boat with the 16 PM.

And yeah totally, i agree with you everything online states it's one of the worst pre-orders in history, yet people who purchased from Apple direct are seeing significant delays.

It depends on your circumstances I suppose; if you spend time at social events and in public spaces there’s more chance of being bumped into by someone careless. Depends on jobs as well, if you are at a desk over a carpet 8 hours a day you are likely in the clear; if you have a job where you are likely to be taking the phone out/putting it back over a dozen times an hour above a concrete floor, the equation changes.

Yes totally agree. That was mainly why I asked — I wasn't trying to be judgemental, just curious whether people are just being very cautious or they're in situations regularly where the phone is at extra risk

Can you update if they allow you to transfer to physical SIM card thanks. If i will as e sims seem a headache when you get a new handset.

I luckily reserved an iPhone 16 Pro last night at Eldon Square and I’ve just picked it up whilst returning my 16 Pro Max that had a defect on the frame.

And unfortunately, this one too has a mark on the frame on the back this time, ughhhh. 😭

I’m not sure what to do now, do I go through even more hassle and replace it again or live with it?

Just looked on my tracking from dpd my phone is been delivered today between 13:40 and 14:40 I never knew dpd delivered on Sundays ?
