I went for the 8 because it's cheaper, I hate the notch on the display and I hate the idea of face ID. I just can't see it being as good or intuitive as Touch ID.
Plus it just grates on me how they feel it's acceptable to charge so much for a phone. I realise the 8 is still hugely expensive, but £1000? That crosses a line which I will never go over.

A lot of people are avoiding it as to not be stung by a first generation device. There will be teething issues including apps not being optimised for the new screen (remember what happened when iPhone 5 came out) and the second generation of FaceID will almost certainly be faster and more reliable (TouchID on iPhone 6 was slow, super fast on 6s). That’s just a couple reasons.

Wait until next year when they feel justified by the £1000 X because it ‘sold out’ and make all iPhones £1000. We all know Tim is all about the profits, he would not hesitate to hike prices across the board if he thought he could get away with it. He’d also then go in the media croaking about how Apple products are “not for the rich.” Cause he really believes that. Or maybe he thinks everyone is as rich as he is.
You only have to look at the unnecessary Brexit price hike of last year to see that Tim doesn’t need much justification to raise prices. Any little excuse will do.
EE Prices are steep, £72.99pm with £99 up front, but you get 15gb internet (not inclusive of Apple Music, which is good), 6 months free Apple Music which is worth £10pm and if you are into your sport, BT Sport which on it's own to EE customer is £5pm or non-EE customers £20pm.
Taking all this into consideration, for me the EE deals aren't that bad considering I currently pay nearly £60pm for a 6S Plus on Tesco Mobile with only 5GB internet and no other perks like the EE deal above.
I am a bit gutted we have to wait till late October as I have been looking forward to this phone for months now, but I suppose I can wait a few weeks longer! 🙂

Conflicting messages then as it's available on 20GB tariffs or higher.
As for Sky Mobile I think once you've completed 30 months' worth of payments the handset is yours; if you upgrade early you have to return your handset to Sky themselves and they credit the handset value to your outstanding loan balance.
I noticed Virgin Mobile are offering 36 month minimum terms again; given that OFCOM banned them six years ago am VERY surprised they haven't had their knuckles rapped yet!

That's £350 more over 2 years than purchasing outright and getting an 18Gb EE SIM.

It's really never been a problem (except on these forums!). Had a generation 1 iPod, iPhone, iPad, iBook, MacBook Air, iMac. They're all been fine.
I have just purchased an Apple Watch and accessories plus AirPods to the value of over a grand. I can't afford another large layout unfortunately! so I will have to pay the premium.
Or are you talking about purchasing outright via using PayPal Finance?

Outright. I seem to be in the minority not bothering with any sort of finance!
If i could I would, but if I add the APR onto the Finance through PayPal it will work out to a similar amount anyway. Plus I get to upgrade yearly on the EE deal.
Considering I am currently paying £60pm for a **** service from Tesco Mobile, I am happy to pay for some sort of a premium for a better device and network with the perks that come with it.
No one should ever had to put up with Tesco Mobile. It is god awful. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. As you can tell I am not a fan!

Exactly this for me.
Annoyingly I am now giving serious consideration to the 8+ 256gb. To move from my 7+ 256gb will be £2.95 a month extra, while also extending my contract by another 12 months.
I'm looking at buying a new car in the new year and the idea of a wireless charging phone cradle + Car Play is very enticing.

Try phoning EE like I did. I've been on a sim only deal for a few years and I told them I want a good deal on an upgrade for an 8+. They quickly went away and gave me £200 off the upfront price and £5 off the monthly rate. I did quote an o2 deal off mobiles.co.uk which they then beat.
It's honestly worth haggling guys.

I've got CarPlay built into my car. Honestly it's the best thing ever especially when paired with Apple Music. Driving and being able to ask Siri to play any song pretty much ever written is just awesome.

Here's why I went for the 8 Plus. For the record, it's not about affordability, as I can afford the X. Seems like a lot of people assume you don't buy the top-of-the-range because you can't afford it.
Gen 1: All the rumours leading up to this release, including from reliable sources, indicated features that aren't present on the released version. This includes the gold finish, TouchID under the glass, cameras under the glass, etc etc. This worries me that this is a "compromise" phone. Something to keep people happy until Apple can get it right. "The New iPad" of phones.
FaceID/TouchID: I truly believe that FaceID is a consequence of not being able to integrate TouchID. I believe all the hardware for face recognition was all in place for AR etc, but "at the last minute", it was implemented as an authentication mechanism. If all it takes is for someone to look at your phone that isn't you to cause a "strike", then you will be using your passcode a hell of a lot. Also, you can accidentally unlock your phone by looking at it. Someone else then swipes up and they are in. TouchID is a deliberate action to authenticate and unlock which doesn't need you to look at your phone. In my opinion TouchID is way better.
The Guts: Lets be realistic, the X isn't any better than the 8 Plus internally. Same processor, same RAM etc. Had there been more of a spec gap between the two (less RAM in Plus, less CPU cores, a 512GB option on the X), it may be easier to justify
I just like bezels: It's true. I like being able to hold my phone securely without encroaching on the screen. I don't want to have to adopt some "pincer" grip where I have to hold the edge of my phone with my thumb and index finger to not obscure the screen
Screen: Yes the X is OLED, but the Plus screen is fantastic. It also has a more natural and useful aspect ratio. Landscape on the X looks terrible ... no space for content. If you then remove the "Ears" and the space where the virtual home button is at the bottom, it's barely better then the 8. The Plus screen is wider, and therefore taller in landscape. As an example, on the X you don't get safari tabs in landscape anymore.
Availability: It's already 2 months late... and when you get one it will be next year. I'd have had my Plus and enjoyed all the AR fun and benefits of A11 Bionic for 4 months by then 🙂
Overall look: The 8 Plus is classic... it's Apple ... it's symmetrical
And you get all that for a £200 saving.
There's not enough compelling reasons to jump onboard. Like I said, a 512GB option may have helped.
X is where it's going, but I'm waiting for XI Plus 🙂

Checked for stock of the 8 plus and you can still pre order it in pretty much all stores
So I ordered a 64gb iphone 8+ Yesterday and starting to think am i just wasting my money. I have a iphone 6s at the minute (paid for outright) and its in perfect condition so no need to really upgrade Do you guy think its worth the upgrade or shall i just keep my 6s and cancel the 8plus?

I don't think availability in-store is a great yardstick of popularity. Only the passionate would get in-store on launch day and I assume the passionate are getting the X. There are delays on most phones for delivery, which is how most will purchase.
Also, many will be getting via carriers.
