UK iPhone 4 tethering

I am thinking of getting an unlocked iPhone 4, and am now completely confused as to whether i will be able to tether it to my MacBook Pro. Does anyone know the answer to this? I'm in the UK, and was also wondering if it is also network specific?

Im on o2 paygo and tethering has just been enabled and works really well! I dont know about on a mac though!
