UK iPhone buyers - EDGE settings

Hi,

To those that are buying the UK iPhone tomorrow is their any chance that one of you could post the correct EDGE APN settings?

I am using:

APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
Username: mobileweb
Password: password

which seems to be work but would be interesting to see whether I am actually connected to EDGE or just GPRS.

Am excited for all those buying tomorrow. I already have one but wanna rush out and buy another just for the thrill 🙂

There are lots of different settings floating around on various forums claiming to be THE settings.

I would just like to know THE settings on the UK iPhone.
 
Well, the ones I posted are the settings for the UK iPhone on Vodafone.

I suggest that people add to the other, more comprehensive thread, with settings that work on each network.
 
Try a speed tester.. unfortunately I can't find one that works well with the iphone eg. http://utilities.globequest.com.ph gives 778kbps over GPRS which *must* be wrong as it exceeds GPRS speed quite a bit.

It's annoying that the iphone displays the 'E' whether it's connected to an edge network or not..


Edit: Try http://www.broadbandchoices.co.uk/speed-test.asp which seems reasonable.

For this I get -
iPhone via GPRS/Vodaphone - 198Kbps
iPhone via Wifi 2.6Mbps
198Kbps still seems on the high side for GPRS to me (Theoretical max. is 171kbps so... it's gotta be overreading at least that much).
 
Edge Settings

Hi Guys,

I searched this site and found the settings for Edge on my unlocked iPhone which I use with an Orange contract sim card.
But when I enter the settings in the 'Network' screen everything is ok and I can connect to the internet etc... but when I turn my phone off and on again the setings have gone, I cannot see a way of saving the edge settings on this phone can anyone help??

Mike, give this a bash.

# Open installer, and install the update if prompted.
# Go to sources and tap Edit and Add
# Add this URL: http://i.unlock.no
# Tap Done and then Refresh
# Go to Install (at bottom) and scroll down to the Unlocking Tools category and install EDGE Settings Fix

That should sort it for you. This is useful if you're on v. 1.1.1 of the firmware.
 
EDGE is automatic and you don't need any particular settings.

the following will definitiely work:
APN : web.02.co.uk
Username : faster
Password : web

if you don't get EDGE then its not on on that cell yet
