I bought my iPhone 11 when it launched. According to my account I’m eligible for a upgrade on 21/8.

if iPhone 12 isnt out until September 21 I’ll have to make one extra payment. If October I’ll have to make two extra (quite possible if COVID impacted things even a little)

In the UK the scheme is only 20 months, not 24 (to my understanding) so if iPhone 12 is delayed, does that affect what you’ll do? If I’m making 2 or possibly 3 extra payments it starts to feel like I would be better paying off the 11 and starting a completely separate iUP for the 12 (and then selling the 11 or passing it to someone in the family)

What are you thinking you might do?

This prompted me to look at my upgrade date as I had no idea. 27th Sep, so I feel pretty well positioned timing wise, but I am not sure the iUP is giving me the best value for money, so (as ever) it’s all about the cost to change as I want my rental payments lower 🙄
If the 6.7” is going to be as expensive as my current max I may just leave my plan to run out the 20 months and skip a year

The value is really only there if you upgrade as soon as the upgrade is available. If there is a delay I might just pay this one through and skip a generation. My 11 Pro Max is not exactly a bad phone!

This is what I’m planning to do as well if the release gets delayed.

Or if the next gen comes out some awesome feature that I would like to use then I’ll just settled the rest of the payment and sign up for a new IUP at that point.

I’m tempted to settle, padd the phone to my son or daughter and get the 12. All my family are on older devices (2xSE, 1x6S) so it may make sense to start updating them this year and next year to avoid doing them all at once

I was due an upgrade on my XS Max which is on the Upgrade Program in April.

I'm patiently holding out for the 12 release so I can tie in my yearly upgrade with the release of each new iPhone

Really hoping there's no more than a few weeks delay if there is one.

That makes sense if you have family who want the phone. I could give mine to my wife but she doesn’t want a phone bigger than her X

I’m not in the UK, but like many people I give my old hardware, phones and watches, to my family. If it’s late, we’ll all wait.

If I skip one, it will be the 13 because the 12 would be <1 year old (if the 13 is on time). I wouldn’t skip 12 because the 11 will be >1 yr old.

If it’s delayed, options are somewhat limited.

While I am not currently an iPhone user, I am looking to switch from Android to Apple as my next handset. Now while my Vodafone contract expires in October, I am eligible to upgrade from the 5th August.

Now normally I would rush out on Upgrade day or phone Vodafone and see what they can offer me. However considering how close we are in getting the iPhone 12, I am extremely reluctant to pay the full whack rental for the iPhone 11, as that will no doubt drop in price when the 12 comes out. So with that in mind, I will continue to pay my monthly rental which is around £75 per month with Spotify included, and then take a look at iPhone 11/12 tariffs once it is released or tariffs announced etc.

your rental will include a device plan though. After 24 months you should always ring up and get moved to a SIM only plan. I guess you may want to avoid committing to a new 12 month contract but that should be doable.

Thankfully with my contract it is on a rolling term once the contract expires in October, it is then only renewed when I sign a new agreement when I upgrade. So regardless if I upgrade next month, or later on in the year, there are no commitments until I sign on the dotted line. But yes I can switch to sim only in October if the iPhone 12 isn’t out by then.

Jesus. £75? Is that normal these days?

Since the 4 I’ve bought the phone outright and gone sim only. My current deal is £3 per month (unlimited mins, 5gb data) and I’m clearly VERY out of touch with handset contracts if that’s how much they are now.

That’s genuinely boggled my mind.

They now have 3 years contracts to lower the cost some what, but still contracts these days are ridiculous!!! some are now best part of £100+ a month for an iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Last time i got a Contract phone was the Samsung Galaxy SII back in 2011, and that was £35 per month over 2 years, after that decided to buy my phone's outright & get a sim only deal, my current one only cost me £12 per month and that with 60GB of data from EE.

Yes am afraid so while Spotify is £10 per month, it is still quite pricey but then that was for the Note 9. The iPhone 11 is currently £58 per month, so may go out and buy the 11 pro, and then go for Sim only, it would save me money in the long run, especially over a 24 month contract.

I would do precisely what I was going to do if the iPhone 12 is released on schedule - skip this upgrade.
First time I'm skipping but these are getting way too expensive, and the leap between upgrades is way too small to justify the extra cost. An upgrade doesn't 'feel' like an upgrade any more.
I'll stick with my iPhone 11 Pro Max for another year. Does everything I need and more!

Wow. That’s astounding to me. I share Spotify family with friends so it’s £2.50 each a month.

Mine is £72 a month old on annual upgrade and that’s with 20% off!

£12 per month and 60 GB data?!

HOW DID YOU GET THAT ON EE?!

Mine’s still £22 and only for 20GB data. Not that I use it all but I’d rather pay less for it.

I pay £13 for the 60GB deal should be 30GB but it’s been doubled
do have student discount to get it at that price

Not to be off topic, but maybe whenever we state our monthly plan cost, we should disclose the necessary backgrounds. Eg. Payment plan including the phone's financing, payment plan but paid nothing upfront for the phone, any student or employee discounts, part of a family contract, etc.

It can really distort the facts if we simply claim we only had to pay xx amount without any disclosures of the specifics.

My Wife get's discount with EE. :D
Our 12 month sim deal's ended in December just gone, we both on rolling now because of the price we pay for what we get is excellent.

I'll only change this plan when 5G is readily available in my area, I have a 5G iPhone & if the Wife can get another awesome discount on a 5G plan.
