So getting a wooden ruler to the bum in school in Jersey would just be a "Pain in the A*se" but getting six of the best with a 12" ruler would be a "Royal Pain in the A*se?"
I don't know I never had 12" up the arse at school.

You might want a screen grab of this 'cause you know it'll be edited.

at Asda thismorning

1Liter unleaded = 95.9p per L (95 octain not the week as dishwater 91 octain the yanks get)
which means £4.36 for 1 imperial gallon OR £5.24 for 1 US gallon (yes ther are different) or $9.95 american for 1 US Gallon and they complained about $3US a gallon, no need

1 US Gallon of unleaded at uk prices =
$9.95 (or $1.76/L) US
$10.69 (or $1.96/L) CAN
€7.67 (or €1.40/L)
$15.02 (or $2.75/L) NZ
$12.52 (or $2.29/L) AUS

how dose that compare to prices arround the world

I paid $2.92 (US) in Lancaster, Pennsylvania last week...
OMG!!! GAS IS SOOO EXPENSIVE!!!!

Meh, it'll be better once we invade Iran...

(I was being scarcastic...I point out to people all the time that we still only pay a fraction of what the rest of the world pays for gas. The usual response is that "Europe has better mass transit"...to which I reply "we used to, but then everyone wanted thier own car." Also, it WON'T be better after we invade Iran.)

Expensive. We're at ~AUD$1.40 here in NSW but expected to hit $1.50 pretty soon and $2 by the end of the year. Mind you half of that price is taxes...

EDIT: That's for the lower-octane regular unleaded. The premium stuff my folks' cars take is around $1.50 or $1.60. We have a bunch of petrol stations here that are linked up with supermarkets, you spend $30 at the supermarket and they give you 4c/L off your next fill-up. There are even some banks that offer you up to 20c/L off petrol for a year etc. if you take out a homeloan with them. Petrol discounts are a very big part of attracting customers to businesses over here.

That's for a litre, right?

Yeah, we don't use gallons here. AUD$1.40/L. For 91 octane regular, about $1.50 and upwards for 98 Premium.

Not sure about the regular octane figure but I'm pretty sure Premium is 98.

premium unleaded is arround £1.10 per L in the UK and its 98 Octain, but for some reason makes my 50cc slowped (slow+moped) even slower, go fig'. works good in my car though but refuse to fill a 50ltr trank with stuf that expencive, ill stick to my cheep stuf and 42milas per gallon thanks (64 mpg on the slowped)

What are the octane ratings around the world? Here in the US: 87 is regular, with the highest you can legally us in street cars being 94. 110 is available in some states but only for non-street use.

Yeah that sounds about right, some engines are designed to not take the higher octane petrol.

I hate to be a spelling nazi but I'm a chemist - it's "octane" not "octain." I'll let the other ones in there slide but looking at that is like looking directly into the sun for me. No offense you understand. :)

Like I said before I'm pretty sure our Premium has an octane rating of 98 and our regular is around the 91 to 95.

I dont think your 95 is "better" then the 91 we get in north america. The reason it seem to be superior is because we dont use the same way to rate octane.

We use (RON+MON)/2 formula in canada

If i take BP's "102" octane fuel which is infact: 102 RON and 90 MON and I apply the formula we use in canada, (100+92)/2 , this fuel would be rated 96 octane.

That post was actually the one that made me wonder about the different octane ratings. Here in the US, people make a big deal about using 89 "midgrade" and 91, 92, 93, or 94, all of which are "super". But, it looks like we are lagging behind the rest of the world in refinement quality. I suppose this is one of several reasons why we pay less for gas in the US.

>>>>Ok, I should have read the next post before posting this. If there are two methods in use for measuring the octane rating, then this would make sense.
