I’m waiting to buy a new 15 inch MBP and for various reasons irrelevant to this thread, I have to buy it in store and at Apple Regent Street in London. I phoned the store and they told me theyd be in today...but today I’ve phoned and they say they aren’t in yet. Anyone in the UK know where they are at all in stock yet? I’d assume Regent Street would be one of the first to get them.

Also, how often do UK stores tend to have stock of BTO options? Thanks!

Can you not order it online and then select pick up at the store?

I have to do it in store because I’m exchanging a 2017 model I just bought...and at the moment it’s showing that option is unavailable anyway (apart from BTO options)

That implies a degree of planning some of us (me included) don't have. I want to be able find myself in town one day when I have an hour to spare and just decide on the spot to buy it rather than plan 2 weeks ahead. Kind of how many of us would buy a TV or HiFi.

This is also true for those of us who travel a lot for work and may not know if they will be local in 2 weeks time. For example today I am 200 miles from home and won't be home again for at least a week, maybe more.

It is amazing Apple can't stock a couple of BTO configurations at least in flagship stores. Big cities must have hundreds of professionals who would want to stroll in and buy BTO machines on a whim. After all, it's a computer not a Ferrari.

I suggest you wait then. The machine was just unveiled last week and it being so new, they're just rolling out now and/or inventories are constrained. If you wait a few weeks to month, you should be able to find what you need when you choose to look for one at a location that suits you.

One of the selling points of these new machines is the ability to have 32gb of RAM. Therefore, I would be amazed if flagships didn’t have some of those in stock for people to buy straight away there and then.

There is usually one selected BTO model available in stores but you have to hammer the employee to actually check as they’ll swear on their first born that no non-standard models are stocked.

This year, the 13” is stocked in i7, 16GB, 1TB config. Not sure about the 15” and as of time of writing UK stores don’t have the 15” in stock yet anyway.

Do you know which stores have that 13" config in stock by any chance?

Thanks

Yup its a royal PITA, I was told stock might be last fri (but 13" only in the end) then I was told today but there were zero (although they said they had a couple and they went but I don't believe that, I think he was just covering the fact he told me they had them and when he checked, found out he was wrong) tried John Lewis and they said they were expecting a delivery this friday. Who knows. Apple are so secretive even their own staff haven't clue

John Lewis could be a good shout, they sometimes offer 3 year warranty + accidental for very cheap. Of course this means you can pop into an Apple store only for the first year, but getting accidental cover for ~£80 in addition to 3 year warranty was a pretty sweet deal for me back in 2016. Last time I got it with a price match to another retailer, so the savings were pretty great!

Yea I got the girlfiends iPhone X from there last year cos I was sick off apple messing me about. 2 years cover I believe free and got the phone a week earlier than apple could manage. (Although had the hassle of not being able to cancel the apple order and having it delivered/refuse delivery and 2 weeks for a refund, hence Im never ordering off apple again, I'd rather buy it from a store.

Update

I phoned again today, and Regent Street confirmed they will be on display tomorrow. That can only mean stock is imminent, as I would very surprised if they put the 15s out without having any available to purchase in the back.

I was told by the Business side that there would be stock tomorrow when I emailed then on Saturday. This is in the Braehead Store.

I also bought the eGPU which was supposed to be delivered today, but delayed until tomorrow. Looks like maybe there was a glitch in delivery systems as I checked the stores and they were delayed by 1 day as well for the delivery of the eGPU

What have they got in? Any BTOs?

Not sure if they've got anything out of standard config, I was just after a higher end standard 15", and whilst 32gb ram/1tb ssd might have been nice I can't really justify considering the extra spend when base config will do me.

Judging by the parts picker for US stores, I think i9/32gb/1tb is the BTO inshore option this time.

Yay
P.S. theyre available finally at Apple Birmingham to walk in. (Well showing that on the apple site anyway)

Anyone know what stock U.K. stores have in 15”? I can see base spec i7 and 2.6 i7 but no i9 or 32GB options.
