Please tell me where the poster said it was a "company laptop". OP said "I will be using it for work and home use". Also said he was selling his MBA to get it. Which means (and call me crazy here) he probably sold the MBA to get the money to buy the MBPr on his own dime, meaning purchasing a computer to do work on.

I mean, maybe I'm outta my mind, but it sounds like you went off on a giant monologue for no effing reason.

"The new work gave me an ultimate 15" retina macbook pro. Wow this thing is amazing!"

Apologies accepted.

Dude. What the **** are you talking about.

Frankly as an IT geek myself he's pretty spot on. Seen the same things many times.

Not to mention the insanity that occurs when not only do you have an IT department but an Infosec one too.

He did make a valid point and it is something that others need to consider when using a work laptop for personal use. Unfortunately there are many who don't know know how to draw that line when it comes to company's property and I was trying to prove a point that if I choose to use it for personal that I do know not to cross that line. Fortunately, I do not work for a corporate company that practices such things. However, I value ethical issues in IT and I know better not to cross that line if I choose to use it for occasional personal use.

I've been an MBA user for 3 years now and I recently started a new job as a Software Engineer. The new work gave me an ultimate 15" retina macbook pro. Wow this thing is amazing! The screen is gorgeous! I am having a hard time switching back to my MBA now after using it. In the end, I decided that it's best to just sell my late 2013 MBA since I will be using the new Macbook Pro for work and home use. Just sharing my excitement :D.

Yes, I love mine too!!! I truly am actually in love with it. I had the previous generation, but I couldn’t use that one on my lap or in bed because it got very hot. With the current version, I think they changed the cooling system and modified the graphics switching system so that the discrete GPU only kicks in very rarely. So with the Haswell rMPB if I’m watching something using VLC, it doesn’t use the GPU and remains cool to the touch. Not to mention, its faaaaast. I love it.

That's true I never hear the fan kick in!

I dunno where this yellow thing is coming from. Never noticed it. Holding my Galaxy S4 up to my screen and the whites seem a little truer on the MBPr.

Of course, I also use flux to prevent my eyes from screaming in agony when i use the computer at night.

You do realize that your GS4 has one of the most "yellow" screens on the market right? I switched from a Galaxy S device to an iPhone and after getting used to it the Galaxy S device looks like it was peed on instead of being truly white (while web browsing). Galaxy S devices are super saturated, which is why the "whites" it produces are yellow.

Really?

Maybe the issue is your eyes have gotten so used to overly-blue displays that accurate whites are confusing your eyes.

I guess you didn't read any of those articles.

"Color Gamut and Color Accuracy

The Galaxy S4 Movie Mode delivers the closest Color and White Point calibration to the standard sRGB/Rec.709 consumer content used in digital camera, HDTV, internet, and computer content, including virtually all photos and videos. Use the Movie Mode for the best color and image accuracy. Its Green primary is still somewhat too saturated – hopefully it will get toned down some as in the Galaxy Note II, which is very accurate. The Professional Photo Mode provides a fairly accurate calibration to the Adobe RGB standard, which is rarely available in consumers displays, and is very useful for high-end digital photography applications. The Standard Mode is the default mode for the Galaxy S4 – it delivers higher color saturation, which appeals to some, and is a better choice for high ambient light viewing conditions, which wash out image colors and contrast. This mode is very similar to the Professional Photo Mode, but has a more bluish White Point. Its Green primary is also too saturated, but noticeably less than in the Galaxy S III. The Dynamic Mode produces the most vibrant image and picture quality."

I'm not going to bother with the other 3, because I am very knowledgeable in this particular criteria. The GS phone I was talking about was the GS2 (that I have/used), so it's possible they have fixed some of it, but the article you presented tells me they clearly haven't.

Lol dude did you even look at these sites? You gave a comparison between the HTC One and the GS4, in which the HTC blows the GS4 out of the water in terms of which has truer whites.

http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-6452_7-57587774/screens-test-htc-one-vs-samsung-galaxy-s4/

Literally look at the first chart they give and you'll see it is the results for "100% White" test in which the HTC scores 498.54 and the GS4 gets 285.54.

Also if you look at the other comparisons on the same chart the GS4 in addition has higher scores in "Red Error", "Green Error", and "Average Color Error"

OP said his company gave him the 15" Retina. Its probably safe to assume his work gave him the computer to use for work purposes and he intends to use it personally.
