Umm, a question about SSD, some time ago I read that SSD used more power, since it was always fully active? So powerwise the old school HD was a good choice in that matter.

second, does SSD soulve the bottleneck problem in speed which is with the old school HD?

Yes its the one with the Cache. I don't think Samsung has a 256GB SSD without Cache. I just checked UPS and it's out for delivery. So hopefully I'll get it soon.

I'll run 2 benchmarks.

1 with my current config (see my sig below).

And the ofcourse the Samsung when I get it.

where did you get the samsung? how much did you pay?

Just added another link to the Samsung SSD (w/ cache) topic. Found it in this thread. It's in German though... however, it does have some good info!

Is the X-25M 160 gb the exact same drive as the X-25M 80?

I have the 80 but I'd like to replace it with something bigger. I'm torn
b/w Vertex or the larger sized X-25M. The difference being random write performance.

See my signature. :)

very good idea this thread, I like the table and how it has a $/GB at the end, it helps make decisions. I'm going to buy a ssd in the next few weeks and this is certainly helpful.

Chase, I think it would probably be best if you linked to my thread because I have since updated the chart and the image you linked to is an older version.

Good idea, I went ahead and changed it!

I just added that chart to the thread. Nice work!

I put my top 3 on there... Vertex, Samsung, and X25-M.

If I had to pick one right now I would probably go with the Vertex.

Best performance Intel, best value Vertex although they still have too many firmware revisions floating around (I think you need a PC to update the firmware currently). I would stay away from the Samsung.
