My boss got herself a new Apple Watch Ultra 2, she already had the Ultra Watch 1.

Got the watch paired and we are now at the screen where it says Restore Backup. In the box for that restore point it says in red upgrade required. I clicked on that backup and it downloaded WatchOS 10.0.1 however now it has been stuck on prepairing for over an hour.

I have the old watch and new watch both plugged in and charging. And yet its still stuck at Preparing. Even rebooted the iPhone 15 Pro Max and its doing the same thing.

Help! (Thanks!)

I also had this problem today updating a new S9. Apple just released 10.0.2 so maybe try again. Reboot the watch too.

Had exactly the same problem today….. eventually I unpaired the AW and tried again an hour later and it was fine.

I finally got it to go.

Our office WIFI is amazingly locked down. So I took her phone and watches somewhere else and put them on the wifi network at the new place, and immediately it started going.

She is all set now. :)
