Decided to try out Backtrack on my Ultra 2 with a short walk on a local beach. Set it going, and then after a mile or so tapped Retrace Steps and turned back, walking in my original steps in the sand. However the display is somewhat confusing, with the white arrow pointing roughly North-West and the white line pointing East of North. Following my original steps exactly, the two pointers never converged. The Apple Support page isn't totally clear on this, but am I right in thinking that I should follow the white line and ignore the arrow? Is my current position in the centre of the compass? Thanks

IIRC the white arrow is the destination of your origination point and the white line is the path to get there. I could be wrong, but I think that’s how it worked.

Turn the crown and you’ll see it zoom in and out and show a range. IF you zoom out does the white line converge on the arrow?

Thanks for the replies. I’ll try Howard2K’s suggestion next time I’m out. I’ll admit I was expecting a simple arrow overlaid over a digital breadcrumb trail.

Just as a postscript, I bought the WorkOutDoors app recently, and it does exactly what I need - creating a breadcrumb trail of a walk or hike that can be followed back to the start point.
