At this point the Ultra 2 is a terrible buy. It’s basically a slightly (not noticeably) faster version than the Ultra 1. Just wait for the Ultra 3 this September or buy a used one at a great discount. Good luck!
au contraire! I upgraded from Ultra 1 to 2 and it is noticeably faster booting up as well as doing OS upgrades, in the order of ~ 30%. In addition, battery life is better ... I posted this back in Sep of 23 when I had both watches for a week.

I’m not saying the Ultra 2 is a bad upgrade, but the watch was released in Sept. 2023 and it’s almost 1.5 years old.

If you didn’t go Ultra for the 1 or 2 and you waited this long, you might as well wait another 5 months.

OP fwiw i went from SE to Ultra 1 then to Ultra2 then to S10 last october. my thinking was S10 is lighter and more suited for most occasions and it was but mostly what i missed was the battery life upto 4 days with no fitness activities 3 days with routine fitness activities , the appearance the feel of the durability my ultra2 i had since October 2023 not a mark on it and still it had 100% battery life.
3 months of using S10 daily i found myself charging 1st thing in morning and before sleep as i use it for vitals monitoring overnight sleeping with Ultra 2 battery charging was less frequent hence after a year it still had 100% battery health .

Durability of the S10 was not the same i am a clumsy ol git and it had a few marks after 2 months as where the ultra 2 had none hence the durability of the ultra 2 is significantly more in my use case so I ended up giving the S10 too my wife as her S7 battery health was depleting rapidly and struggling to last a full day in fact probably only lasting 12 hours as she is quite active using it for calls and endless whatsapp notifications. im back on the ultra 2 and do if possible go to a apple store find a enthusiastic sales rep who will help you decide spending some time trying the ultra 2 with different straps , getting the right suitable style of strap and size is the key to eradicating the oversized watch thought the weight or size after a week its not noticeable or disturbing . good luck in deciding and as for waiting for every september release by the following january the speculation of newer versions arise so you will never keep up but fwiw the ultra 2 is probably one of their least disposable devices..

I appreciate the thoughtful reply!

I DID move to the Ultra 2 and I’m really liking it. I do miss the slimness, curved display, and weightlessness of the S10, but I really wanted the extra battery life and two additional watch face options that the Ultra 2 offers. The slim, light form factor is really the only thing I miss about the S10, but I’m quickly getting used to the heavier Ultra 2. It’s worth it to me for the better battery and extra two watch faces.

Battery life on the Ultra 2 has significantly better! Definitely noticeable.

I currently have a 41mm S7. I really want an Ultra 2 for the larger screen etc, but I'm also afraid of exactly what you state above! I don't have the biggest wrists and the Ultra 2 may just look completely odd on me! :(
Apple offers a great easy return plan, just in case.

Ditto.

I was planning to wait until the Ultra 3 in September but my old watch was increasingly troublesome so I ended up going for a 2 now.

The battery seems quite amazing. It's showing as 100% capacity and I charged it to 100% last night. 24 hours later and it's down to 74% so I'm hopeful I will only be charging it every 48 hours or so. I'm planning to charge to 80% routinely and no more to try and conserve battery as much as possible - hopefully it'll last me a good few years!
