Out of curiosity, has anyone in this forum actually ever used the satellite function when no wifi or 5g was not available? I have the Ultra 3 and would love to actually use it or try it.

thanks ....yes I am aware of the Demo mode but I just wanted to know if anyone actually used it during somewhat of an emergency. In a couple of month's I like to travel to South America (Suriname) and would love to find out if I can really use it there....

I'd contact Apple to find out if there's coverage in Suriname, not sure anyone here on MR used it there

First of all...sorry to see you leave the Ultra 3 group....were you actually able to use the full functionality of the satelite function or was it just in Demo mode? I tried what you mentioned above by turning my phone completely off and turning my wifi off on my watch and bluetooth and cellular function on my watch off. Yet I can only get the demo function.....let me know if I did something wrong.....thanks

Yes full use. I hike a lot! I just don't use a apple watch daily anymore outside of sleep and workouts. I already have a satellite messaging on my iphone anyway.
Do you have a watch data plan? That is what's needed for imessage on satellite from what I read. But if you don't have a watch data plan, then it will work on SOS and you can request help just using the watch.

You have to go somewhere that doesn’t have any cellular signal to make the watch connect to satellites while the iPhone is off.

I run a lot and last summer I went on a long run on a summer vacation on Sardinia where my cell service wasn't present. The route was not as planned with some closed off areas and it took longer than anticipated and would have loved to be able to use satellite to message my wife that I was okay. She was pretty worried and if anything happened, I would have been pretty alone
