In a van down by the river
Are there any Ultra owners around who are using the Solo Loop, instead of the new offering bands for the Ultra? If so, how has the fit been in day day to day use? Did you have to size down on the loop? I am starting to consider getting the Ultra 2 when it is released and I really like the Solo Loops, in addition to the Sport Loop.

I rarely use the fluoroelastomer solo loops as they irritate my skin, but I do use the braided solo and love it.

I always size down mine, as my original loop stretched out and it was really loose.

Yep, it's a good combo.

I normally have a metal link on my Ultra which gives it a nice heavy/clunky feel.:) Swapping it out for the solo loop from my s6 makes it feel like an entirely different watch. So light.

That said, I'm not totally sold on Apple's silicone loops. They can feel a bit 'sticky'. I wouldn't mind trying out one of the woven solo loops - but $100 for something unknown seems a bit much.

For the regular Solo Loops I had to go one size down, but the Braideds were still fine in the size I had. My Braideds are not stretched out, though, so that certainly helps.

And yes, a well-fitting Solo is indeed a match made in heaven with the Ultra as the higher weight of the Ultra (vs. Series Watches) completely disappears when the Ultra doesn‘t move around on the wrist.

I have a Woven Loop and it's great! Might go a size smaller next time because of the marginally larger case makes it a bit more loose.

I also have a solo loop and at least here in the winter months it's too large to fit tight enough with the heart rate etc. for running. Hope it's better for the summer.

It does get easier dirty as you mentioned, compared to the normal sport bands.

Just a heads up and I’m pretty sure it’s not a widespread issue but I, along with others here, have had their solo loop crack in half. Mine lasted a whopping eight months. I’m just grateful it happened while I was on my bed or my watch at the time (was an 44mm S6 SBTi) would’ve hit the ground.

Not trying to dissuade you from the solo loop, just want you to be aware. It started as a very small crack for me and didn’t spread much before it completely cracked in two.

Pretty nightmare scenario right here!!

I didn’t even try to warranty it. Took the loss as I would never trust that thing again, even if it was a free replacement.

The constant stretching around the width of my hand to put it on and take it off wasn’t very comforting and I can feel the stress being placed on the attachment points in doing so.

Yup, happened to me too, the exact same way, in about the same time frame. Lesson to be learned, stop using solo loop immediately as soon as it develops a crack. Once it starts to crack, it rapidly devolves to a full break.

I did get another solo loop when I upgraded to an S8. This one feels sturdier than the one that broke, which I got with an S6, so I'm hoping it lasts longer. After experiencing the lightness of the solo loop, I just can't go back to the heavier bands, even knowing they can break. After my first solo loop broke, I got a knock-off from Amazon, which lasted a bit longer than the original Apple one. I think it's inevitable that any solo loop will eventually break or stretch too much to wear. It's just the nature of the thing.

The „secret“ is to put them on and off without the excessive stretching. It‘s easy if you try. Also, they keep their size that way, even the braided ones.

Sure, there are ways to minimize stretching as you take the watch on and off, but my hands are large in proportion to the size of my wrist. My partner, for example, has thicker wrists but smaller hands than me. So if he wore a watch with solo loop (right now he doesn't have a watch at all), he'd have a much easier time not excessively stretching the band!

There is a way to put on the Solo Loops without ever pulling them over your hand/knuckles. Just attach the top part, gently clamp the watch between your wrist and e.g. your thigh, slide in bottom part. To get the band off, flip the watch over so the sensor side is on top, click the connector button and gently slide the band out. All very easy and will prevent any stretching out or snapping.

I have mobility issues, so for me, that's not easy at all. I have problems pushing the band connector button even when the Watch is off my wrist! But great tip for those who are able to manage that.

Don’t get me wrong, it was one of the most comfortable bands I’ve worn but not so much that I absolutely have to have it. Others do the job just fine. Didn’t think it was all that great for working out either. Perfect fit on a dry wrist but if I started to sweat, it would slide up and down my wrist a lot. Maybe I sweat WD-40, I don’t know lol.

Gotchya, but by the time I realized that this band may eventually crack, it was already too late. Stretching I understand, but didn’t figure it would crack and then eventually in two… in well under a year of use especially.

If this band was a must have for me, I’d give it another shot with your method but at this point, I can take it or leave it. Seems like too much work (relatively, of course) just to get my watch on and off.

Sorry to hear this! The connector itself is indeed quite fiddly.

Judging by the small number of user reports, this does seem to happen very rarely, but you are of course right that it shouldn‘t happen at all. Maybe it was just a bad batch?

Fair enough. To me the comfort level of the Solos is so superior that I‘m willing to go to these „lengths“ once daily. And with all the practice I had with this method, it‘s now really a matter of seconds.

FWIW, when the Solos were first released it immediately felt kinda wrong and „brute force“-like to me to stretch these bands over the hand/knuckles, which is why I looked for a different approach.

Just got my first solo loop in Sprout Green and I love it! I also love the braided solo loops. I size down in all of these, I measure at 10 and I get 9 and it keeps it perfectly snug and comfortable. I'm always told it's too tight, but it would shift around my wrist if it were any looser.

edit: enormous photo, sorry. I don't post from my computer all the time so I don't always know what I'm doing. Sorry about my big hand!

The most strenuous workout I do is a brisk walk, so sweat isn't an issue for me, heh. I can totally understand your perspective -- the other bands do work great. I keep a Nike Sports band around for backup if/when my solo loop breaks, and I did wear the Nike for a while before I got my S8, when the Amazon knockoff got too loose to wear. But when it came time to pick a band while upgrading to the S8, I decided to go back to the solo loop. It's basically free with the watch, so I get to have a more comfortable band for however long it lasts. If it breaks again, I'll go back to the Nike, and that'll be perfectly fine, too.

Hard to tell how often an issue happens from postings in a forum, but I've seen it come up a few times, and every time it is mentioned, a few people chime in saying it's happened to them. So my impression is it happens from time to time, but not so often as to catch media attention like with antenna-gate. The band I got with my S8 does feel slightly sturdier than the one that broke. Maybe like you said, different batches have slightly different builds, or maybe Apple improved the band after they learned that some first gen bands broke?

I just picked up the same band earlier this week. I really like the color.

Yes, I agree. It just didn’t feel right stretching it over my hand. I felt like the attachment point was gonna break any time. It was under a lot of tension while stretching it over the hand.

Could’ve been a bad batch. I think when I had mine, the solo band was just released for the first time. I optioned it together with my S6 SBTi when I preordered.

Yes, I actually bought one of those cloth type Velcro Nike bands just for working out when I realized the solo loop was causing me issues. That’s another very comfortable band.
