When I use the internal speakers of my Ultrafine 4K display I can only use the first 3 (of 16 or so?) steps with 1 step being too quiet, 2 almost being right and 3 almost being too loud. That leaves me with 13 unusable steps and the problem that whenever I plug in my MacBook to the monitor the sound of the speakers is usually way too loud.

Is there a solution to that issue?

Hold down the shift and option key at the same time then do the volume adjustments and it will bump in 1/4 increments. So you could 2.25 or 2.5 if you like.

I have the new LG 5k and it is the same way. I run it at 1.5 notches up.

Still pretty inconvenient. To me this is a clear bug in the monitor's design that needs to be fixed.

Get in line! There are so many issues with these displays. The only thing left to happen is for them to spontaneously combust like the Note 7.

And yes, you are right . . the volume goes from "can't hear it" to "everyone in the neighborhood can" in two increments.

Oh, and it's REALLY nice when you plug it in and the volume goes all the way to max without your knowledge. . Yeah. Thanks Apple.
