Hi,

I am looking to buy an UltraWide screen around 34” for my MBP 14” (base specs).

I going to use it for productivity (School and Work) and maybe the odd game or movie. Mostly care about it being able to power the laptop and it not being overly expensive.

I initially looked at the Dell Ultrasharp U3421WE which is within my price range.
But I saw that LG 35WN75C-W is quite similar but here in Sweden costs around half as much as the Dell. I guess there are loads more from Samsung etc to consider as well.

Since there seems to be loads of things to keep in mind with UltraWide monitors I would appreciate more experienced users input on what to look for and if you have any recommendations regarding which monitor to buy.

Best regards
Alex

The Dell is an IPS panel. LG is VA.

I'd stay the hell away from any ultrawide with a resolution lower than 5120×2160. The reason: You won't get the HiDPI (Retina) modes on macOS with their vastly improved font rendering on, say, a 3440×1440 ultrawide. And macOS' font rendering is absolutely terrible in non-HiDPI modes. The only 34" 5120×2160 ultrawides I know about are the LG 34WK95 and the MSI PS341WU. Both aren't cheap but... I wouldn't bother with any lower-resolution ultrawide for macOS.
