You can't even see the surface of the moon like a Samsung can so I just got the Air.

Telephoto by a mile for me too.

But it probably just depends on what you take pictures of more. Someone who takes more pictures of huge subjects (landscapes, cityscapes, large crowds, etc) or in smaller spaces probably appreciates the UltraWide more. It also has the macro function.

But I take a lot of spontaneous photos and videos of single or a handful of objects (people, animals, cars, etc) in large open spaces. In those situations I often find it impractical to get closer to the subject (fleeting moments, subjects in the sky, performances at a venue, etc).

When I had an iPhone Pro, I didn't use the UltraWide much and when I did it was mostly for the macro function. But the standard iPhone (and rumored folding iPhone purportedly) omits the telephoto so I assume the majority of users prefer having the UltraWide. But still just interested to see what the distribution is for MR users.

I have an iPhone air. And I would have killed for a telephoto lens for wildlife photos. I have a Sony 20x zoom camera but I always forget it hiking.

Curious--77% for telephoto, didn't expect that. Only 30 votes though. I wonder if it will tip back toward ultrawide.

Both are very helpful for me at work. I'll need take pictures of things on top of buildings that I can see from the ground and don't want to setup a ladder. But I also need to take photos of industrial equipment in small rooms where you can't stand far enough away to fit it in one shot without a wide angle.

Telephoto is going to be more popular, but personally I use both quite a bit, and to be honest I probably use ultrawide more... I was very tempted to get the iPhone air, but I realized how much I use ultrawide and that made my choice to hold on to my 16PM. I mostly use UW when I'm out cycling to take scenic shots and group shots of the people I'm cycling with, which will sometimes number in to the 100s. I also use it quite a bit when I go to indoor events and want to get the whole room or a group shot. Sometimes it's not the best quality photo as some have mentioned, but I rather get everything in than have the perfect picture tbh.

A day ago I upgraded from an SE2 to 17 Pro and am still learning. Does the camera choose which lens to use based on how I frame a shot or must I set that ? For example, will I be able to select a particular focal length ?

I have ultra wide, which I used once to check out Desk View, so I'd choose telephoto.

Oh gosh. At first I was about to go Telephoto without a doubt but then someone mentioned macro…..I love the detail in Macro photos but the telephoto is so cool and gives such dynamic shots (and helps me see things far away when I don’t have my glasses 😅). I guess if I could only have one I would do .5 because it gives me macro and without it you cant get a good video/photo when you don’t have room to back up from the subject

Would prefer to have telephoto over the ultra wide. But best option is to have both. I use telephoto more frequently but want the ultra wide too. Disappointing to hear that the upcoming foldable will lack a telephoto lens.

This for me. I used to have an iPhone SE which only had one camera but even now, I use the main camera (1x and 2x) 99% of the time. However, the telephoto's super useful for reading things from afar while still remaining quite legible.

For me, while a telephoto lens sounds like it would be fun, I NEED the ultra wide. Its absence is a deal-breaker for me. I need to take reference photos for work, often in small spaces. An ultra-wide lens is so useful for this I could not consider going without one!

The only time it’ll choose the focal Length is when shooting close up shots, and it’ll switch between lenses activating macro mode depending how close you get to a subject. There are multiple focal lengths, you can tap the 1x button on screen to get even more options to frame a shot.

In answer to the question here, I use both the telephoto and ultra wide on my 17 Pro. If I had to choose one then I may pick the telephoto.

I voted for telescopes, but I think the ultra-wide gets used more often than people think. Photos of food, scanning documents, etc all swap to macro photography at closer distances. With a mono camera, I can no longer take macro photos of my eyeballs and insects. Not sure how I’ll cope with all of this free time I have now.

Same here. Also, coming from phones without macro, I’d have to say that the macro-mode is equally as important to me. And, to me personally, ultrawide just makes the photos look weird and unnatural.

Macro uses the UW. Not sure if you got those mixed.
