So you think that a phone would sell better with a main and telephoto rather than a main and ultrawide? I could see how some people would prefer a telephoto. At least they have a cropped 2x zoom but there’s no way to fake an ultrawide lensTo me it's absolutely the telephoto. It's what I miss the most on my iPhone Air (coming from 15PM, and Pro phones for years). Previously, when looking back at my photos, I was about 90% Main lens, 9.9% Telephoto, 0.1% Ultrawide.
Lack of a Telephoto lens is what I tell people is probably the make-or-break of whether the iPhone Air works for you. Given the non-Pro iPhones have had just Main and Ultra-wide for years, I think if Apple had given the Air the Main and Telephoto, it would've done much better as positioning and pricing as an "almost-Pro" phone.
You can do a good fake/workaround of an ultrawide photo with the pano feature, but only when there isn't much movement in frame. Doesn't work for a lot of movement nor of course for video. So you think that a phone would sell better with a main and telephoto rather than a main and ultrawide? Yes. Now whether the actual base iPhones (eg. iPhone 17) would sell better or worse with Main + Telephoto, vs current Main + Ultra-Wide... I don't know. Maybe. Hard to say over a huge sample-size, what the average is over the whole population. So you think that a phone would sell better with a main and telephoto rather than a main and ultrawide?
