Sooooooo, iOS 13 has security updates, but the iPad won't get it until the end of the month.

I was hoping we'd get a 12.x point update today with just the security content, but nope.

Soooooooooooooo technically we shouldn't have them online, particularly with non-curated (i.e. Hulu, etc.) content.

iPads are no more or less secure today than they were yesterday. Apple hasn't published any security notes for iOS 13.0, so it's not as if they've exposed any vulnerabilities.

They are though, as the bad guys have been at work reverse engineering the code for hours now. And that's assuming there were no zero days. The first exploits show up in days or hours now.

They’ve certainly had more than hours to reverse-engineer. The GM build has been available to the public since last Tuesday, and Apple’s been publicly distributing iOS 13.0 builds since June.

Unless there were some major documented threat out there that I was at high risk of falling victim to I wouldn't let the lack of latest security updates stop me from using a device . . But that's just me, I have also been known to drive around parking lots without my seatbelt on .. 😱

That is interesting that iPad didn’t get iOS 13 release but phones did... is that a first in recent history?

Relax. If there were any serious security vulnerabilities Apple would put out a patch right away.

Besides, lots of devices, iOS/Apple devices and others, aren't running the latest OS builds at any give time. They're still perfectly fine. Your iPad is no less safe to use now than it was last week.

Let me know how the “Real” public Beta test goes, Once installed you only have 30 days of original warranty left in case iPadOS bricks anyone’s iPad Pro since it launched 10-30-2018

I’ll wait a cool 2 weeks before I download it.

What? Your device is safe. There are no critical exploits at the moment otherwise Apple would release 12.4.2. Oh and btw iPadOS / iOS 13.1 is coming on the 24th. Just a couple more days.

Also 12.4.1 is the same thing as 12.4. 12.4.1 is just patching the exploit that was used for the unc0ver jailbreak on 12.4.

I mean, sure iOS 13.0 has possible more fixed bugs than the 12.4.1 atm. But it's just 4 days until you get iPadOS.

I feel like this is also overly cautious. It’s not going to brick your device, and if there are any major bugs, patches will be sent out.

Well yeah because this will be the first time iOS is forked into a phone version and tablet version..,
It’s not actually forked. They could have released iPadOS 13.0 if they wanted to; it’d have been the same build as iOS 13.0 GM. iPadOS is still iOS and still reports itself accordingly when requested by apps. “iPadOS” is little more than a marketing name; nothing has changed or likely will change in terms of how Apple develops the OSes between iPhone/iPod touch and iPad.

It’s also not the first time they’ve withheld an iOS release from iPads. iPads didn’t get iOS 4.0 or 4.1 (which, to be fair, mostly brought features to smaller iOS devices that already existed on iPads), before they reunified in iOS 4.2.1. iPads also didn’t get iOS 7.0 beta 1, for whatever that’s worth.

Unless you're visiting a lot of creepy websites, you're most likely fine.

Also, if you didn't know, it was 12.4.0 that had a security hole. Apple patched that hole in 12.4.1, so there's less to be worried about if you're on that version, and 13 most likely improves on that but we'll have to wait and see to be sure.

Not to be that guy, but nothing will happen to your iPad. Use it. Enjoy it. There are thousands if not millions of iPhone/ipad owners using outdated software. Watching Hulu will not affect your iPad other than binge watching. The idea of iOS/Mac OS is to have peace of mind that nothing anyone does can have an affect on my product.

It’s bc the iPad isn’t getting ios13. Its getting its own Os ipadOS which is coming on the 24th.

Op saying we shouldn’t use our iPads untill the upstate? What? I don’t understand that logic considering the majority is still running ios12.
