I’ve been trying to set up Advanced Data Protection, but when I attempt to add my wife as a recovery contact, I get the error, “Cannot Add [name], You can only add contacts who are using iMessage.”

She does use iMessage and it is enabled and working fine.

Is there a known fix or workaround for this issue?
 
I don't know if there's a simple answer for that. The requirements for ADP scare me off.


Got an older Mac, iPhone or iPad running an older version of system software? Too bad!

Additionally, there's no mention of the OS requirements for the "recovery contact". Does the recovery contact have to meet the same requirements?
 
Update: Issue resolved with iOS 16.3. 👍
