I just got a HomePod but I'm having issues with what should be a simple enough feature. I want to start playing music (with Siri) on the HomePod and then ask Siri to also play that music in the bedroom (via an Apple TV). Siri parses this correctly, but the Apple TV pops up the 4-digit random passcode request that you would normally enter on your iPhone/iPad to initial "pair" the two. This was an option in previous versions of tvOS that seems to have disappeared in the current version, so I can't even turn it off. (The only passcode option I see in the tvOS 11.4 settings is the AirPlay > Require Passcode, which is a static 6-digit code. And I have that set to off anyway.) For reference I can Airplay from the Apple TV to the HomePod (by adding the HomePod as an audio source), but I can't seem to get it to go in the opposite direction. Any thoughts?

On the Apple TV, you can alter the Airplay-setting of who can stream stuff. Play around with that setting.

I'm at work so can't check the exact name of the setting and I don't know it by heart :)

Did you have any joy resolving this? I’m experiencing the same issue. Thanks.

I check for threads on this daily, Apple is just going to have to fix it, HomePod and appletv do not play nice together, currently you can use HomePod as a source for appletv but once you do that it breaks the homepods Siri, she can do some stuff but she is definitely broken

As in the other thread, Siri only appears to be broken for some. Also as in other thread Siri works just fine on my setup and always has. Never knew any different until the other thread.

I was getting the passcode prompt on an Apple TV, when connecting from a new HomePod.

However I do think I’ve found an end-around for this (infuriating and stupid) issue.

Use an iOS device to intermediate.

When playing audio on my HomePod (in room x), asking HomePod-Siri “play this in [room y] too” would result in the bad behaviour. Instead, ask iOS-Siri “connect [room x] to [room y]”, when Apple TV requests a passcode it will pop the iOS keyboard for input.

After doing this it doesn’t bother for a passcode again.
