As the title suggests I can't Boot into Windows Bootcamp partition when using Option key on starting my Mac. The partition is visible but Windows goes into recovery mode when selected. I can however boot into windows when selecting the bootcamp partition as the target disk in system preferences and then restarting.

It would be nice if the option key selection worked.

Btw Windows is on an external SSD connected via usb 3.

Thanks

I'm sure someone will have a better answer, but I suspect the reason the Option Key does not work is because your Windows installation is external rather than internal.

Agreed.

I have not checked lately, but some years back this was the case: BootCamp was only officially supported on as a partition on the internal drive.

Get the trial version of Winclone and then select the Windows drive and follow the instructions at this page to "Make EFI Bootable".

It worked for me when I resized the Bootcamp partition on my Thunderbolt external SSD Windows 10 and it stopped booting.

Winclone is an awesome app well worth the purchase of by the way.
