The brightness buttons on side are not functioning, so, I try to change it through Mac OS brightness control, the control bar sometime shows up, so I can change the brightness easily there, but most of the time it won't show up, in which case I'm unable to change the brightness at all. Does any one know if this can be fixed easily?

Thanks,

What Mac?
What macOS version?

It should usually work for Intel Macs. It requires the USB of the display to be connected.

If you have an Apple Silicon Mac, or the USB doesn't work or is not reliable, then use MonitorControl.app

I used my MacBook Pro 15" 2012 laptop (intel cpu), and macOS version is Ventura and Catalina, there is no issues for physical connections between my laptop and this Cinema Display, it's just the screen brightness control bar won't show up, I tried that MonitorControl.app already, no difference. I knew the display itself has hardware issue (the brightness control bar on the side won't work), but I did get brightness control adjusted successfully through Mac OS for several times (unfortunately not every time). Just wondering if it is easy to get it fixed, such as opening its side panel, replace some components, etc.? Any thoughts?

I don't know about repair.

Did you try disconnecting the USB when you were trying MonitorControl.app?

USB connection is needed for this 30" Apple Cinema Display to work, otherwise, no image at all.
