Unable to get audio...

I have checked to ensure that my Mac is not on MUTE and the volume is up on high. The symbol at the top of the computer shows that I should be getting sound but audio is not working. Not in ITunes, not online, not on videos saved in IPhoto.

any suggestions?

Just had this problem myself, try Applications - Utilities - Audio MIDI Setup. Look at the output tab, make sure that mute is unchecked and volume sliders are not at minimum.
