I just started using a pre-M1 2020 MacBook Air. even though I have imported the settings from my old MacBook Pro using Migration Assistant. the MacBook Air functions differently from its predecessor in that while the MBP logged me in automatically (as I preferred), the newer laptop always logs me out when I restart, so that I have to use my password to get in.

even though I have disabled FireVault (as a tutorial suggested that I do). I really can't figure out why I have this problem, especially as I made the MacBook Air a "trusted device" and currently have no other "trusted devices". (once I'd migrated, I wiped out the old MBP's memory, after disabling its access to my iCloud account.)

although I suspect this has something to do with my current iCloud settings, I can't figure out which iCloud setting.

help?!

sorry, I typed "Firewall" when I meant"FireVault". I think that I had, though when I checked in System Preferences, I found it still turned on. going through my first Time Machine backup on the new machine ATM. when that concludes I will try again.

"If automatic login is unavailable
When manual login is required, the “Automatic login” menu is dimmed or doesn't show the account name. For example:
*If FileVault is turned on, manual login is required for all accounts. You can turn FileVault off.
*If an account uses an iCloud password to log in, manual login is required for that account. You might also see the message “A user with an encrypted home folder can't log in automatically.” When changing the account password, you can choose not to use the iCloud password.'

yes. the problem originated because I thought I had turned off FireVault when, in fact, I hadn't! thought you all for your patient replies!
