In an attempt to solve what might have been an indexing issue, I went ahead and did a clean install of Mavericks and then migrated my applications and user settings from a time machine backup during the installation process.

Now when I try to log into my usual account at the log in screen, it says:

"You are unable to log into the user account "[account name]" at this time.

Logging into the account failed because an error occurred"

Any ideas as to what might have went wrong or what I can do? I can log into other user accounts just fine.

Explain exactly what you did after the clean install? It sounds like perhaps you made an account then logged in to that account, then afterwards migrated in the other account?

If so, you may be running up against the issue described here in the pink box.

After the installation, it prompted me transfer things if I wished, and I pointed to the correct time machine backup and hit OK.

So no creating a new account.

Edit: fixed it. I went digging around in account settings and found out that the home directory was "storage 1" instead of just "storage"

No idea why it did that, but naming it appropriately fixed the issue. Given the nature of the issue, I feel like Apple's error labeling was pretty lackluster in this case.
