On my iPad 12.9 in horizontal orientation I am trying to move widgets from the customize window to spots on my screen though it will not let me. It only seems got let me place widgets on the far left side of the screen. How do you set it up so that you can move them wherever you want?

Thanks

So it is not something I am doing incorrectly. This is very odd that they add widgets but do not allow you options for positioning them on a screen...

Knew about this from reading of the beta experiences, but what an odd limitation of iPadOS that is seeing it now for myself. Counting on this support being added in a dot release. If not I am very curious to hear the explanation.

Apple said they just didn’t get round to it for iPad, due to how to deal with rotating to landscape, etc. It’ll come though. Just no indication of when.

Gives me confidence in my iPad purchase and “this is your next computer” spiel when it’s relegated to a “we didn’t get around to”device. IPadOS is still incomplete is so many ways. But I guess it’s getting there, slowly.

The iPad in general has been a massive disappointment for ios14. Especially after how much they improved it in ios13.

So your iPad has "old Widgets" which Apple calls widgets. The iPhone got "new Widgets" which Apple calls widgets.

If you think that's bad, the iPhone has BOTH kinds of widgets (old and new) and Apple calls them all widgets even though they both behave very differently.

It's kind of mind-blowing how confusing they've made it. In a way you're lucky that what you have, annoying as it is, at least makes sense.

You can’t on the iPad they’re still restricted to the sidebar thing. The new App Library thing is also not on there which I’m more disappointed by as i was looking forward to clearing off all my app icons

likewise... I had actually reset my Home Screen Layout in preparation of iPadOS14 And using the App Library.

Very disappointed by the lack of the App Library and the lack of placing widgets.

Apple has always had OS updates that have bigger focus one one of the devices. Last year was iPad, this year was iPhone. I suspect they will mostly alternate between them like this.

My guess is they’re not happy with just bolting on the iOS functionality as-is. While certain aspects would be great in doing so (widget placement) I think they’re approaching it from a “what makes sense for an iPad form factor” point of view. My guess the App Library on iPadOS is going to different with special capabilities provided by the larger screen.

Obviously this does nothing for the short term as it would be nice to even have the grafted on experience from iOS today. But in my opinion Apple split the iPad OS off for very specific reasons that we have not yet seen the fruit of.

I'm finding "both" kinds on my iPad. The new ones work in portrait orientation in the sidebar, but none of them show in landscape orientation. The old ones will, but not the new ones. This was a known issue and was let through the process? Pretty stupid.

Whether or not you like it, having widgets anywhere on the screen would cause problems when rotating from portrait to landscape. I suspect we won't get it until icon location isn't based their distance from the top left of your screen and we can place them anywhere we want.

Since the new widgets are not placed on the Home screen on an iPad but in a sidebar, wonder why the landscape side bar implementation can't be like 13 but with the new widgets.
