So I did a phone to phone transfer from my 14PM to new 15PM…. I had my AWU on the whole time. I don’t remember getting any prompts to transfer over the watch or anything. When I opened the watch app this morning it wasn’t there…… I tried clicking on pair existing watch and pair new watch but neither worked. Tried rebooting my watch and no luck.

Is there a trick to get it paired without having to restore the watch?

My AWU transferred over perfectly, but I had all the updates installed on all my devices. My wife was not running 10.0.1 on her S8, and it did not transfer over. I ended up having to use her old phone to update the watch, then unpair it, and manually pair it and restore the backup on the new phone.

You have to unpair on the old phone first and it will reset the watch.
It's the only way to pair the watch with the new phone.

You have to leave your old phone on. Had similar issue with my wife’s watch last night. It would not transfer. Then I remembered her old phone was turned off. Back on, watch started pairing.

Ugh! That’s what I was afraid of, since I already reset the old phone I can’t do it. I guess my only option will be to restore the watch

Keep old and new phone on after data transfer between them. Never erase the old phone after a new phone is set. Wait until new phone is tested and verified that all work well. Then unpair the watch on the old phone first. Then pair the watch on the new phone. If you buy a new a watch, update the watch OS first before unpairing and pairing. This process worked for me.

I guess I learned this lesson the hard way. Will definitely do this next time. Thanks!

Ok that wasn’t so painful. I restored the watch and then went through the steps to repair it….. apparently all settings and preferences were saved or backed up. I didnt have to touch anything and the watch was back to its previous state….. took less than 10 minutes

Can you explain what you did? I’m in the same boat. Did you just go to Settings on AW and do reset?

If you have your old phone, leave it on when pairing to new phone. Otherwise go into watch settings and reset, and then pair with new phone.

Problem is I tried transferring it and failed and wasn’t stuck on the watch with those tick marks. I turned it Off and back On and note it’s not connected to my old phone is my new one. It’s not speeding up on either phone but looking at the watch it seems like it is.

yes I had to go in to settings and do a full erase on the watch. It appears that this automatically creates an icloud backup of the watch..... So when I set the watch up as a new device on my new phone all settings and preferences were there automatically.
