unable to recognize specified IPSW

I tried multiple 4.0 ISPW but none of them are recognizable. I tried redsn0w 0.9.5 and 0.7.1, both with no luck. What's the problem?
 
Are you sure the IPSW isn't corrupted?
Also, make sure you d/l the correct IPSW for your iPhone and OS.
 
Did you use Safari to d/l? Because if you did, you will need to turn off that option in Safari which automatically opens up files...
 
Also, windows adds crap to the end of the extension. Instead of ipsw, they turn it into a zip file or some BS like that.

Nice

it a setting 2 seconds to fix

select Start | Settings | Control Panels | Folder Options
- select the View tab
- check "show hidden files and folders"
- UNcheck "hide file extensions for known file types"
- Click OK to finish
 
still nothing! i re-updated my iphone to 4.0.2 again with a different download and that didn't change anything(didn't think it would to begin with). Am i missing something?
 
or another softeware to jailbreak that i can use on my iphone 3g that's on 4.0.2? I use windows btw!
 
well my iphone is on 4.0.2 but i heard i'm suppose to use 4.0 if i want to jailbreak? so i've been trying to use 4.0 to jailbreak on my 4.0.2 version iphone 3g. I just tried 0.9.6 and that didn't work either....
 
well somethings not right, maybe i'm not getting the right IPSW? All the ones i have say restore at the end, not sure if that means anything but even that snowbreeze had a problem with the IPSW..

My experience is that 4.0.x runs like crap on a 3g, you should be better off on 4.1 JB.
 
but i want to unlock it.

Also i tried using snowbreeze, it made a custom IPSW which i used to restore my iphone with but it just keeps saying "preparing iphone for restore" and after 10min fails with an error.... man wtf im having no luck.

Edit: i used the iREB-4.0.x-4.1 which is suppose to fix the error but it just starts loading up the firmware and after a bit i get an error 14 god damn it!

I had the same problem "unable to recognize specified ipsw" , but thank God now it's solved. i searched for 4 days but thank god finally i have founded the correct solution.
