When I try to Wi-Fi Sync, the "Sync Now" option is grayed out and on the line just under I get a message that says Sync will resume when "NAME OF MY COMPUTER" is available

Why can I Wi-Fi Sync?

I do not see any iPad button in iTunes.

I only see the iPad button if my iPad is physically connected to my computer

When the iPad is connected by wire have you selected the "sync over wifi" option in iTunes? It isn't enabled by default, it should be near the bottom of the summary page.

If you don't enable wi-fi sync in iTunes on your computer, it will be greyed out on your iDevice. Connect your iDevice and enable it, then sync. Then in the future you will be able to sync wirelessly.
