Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone here owns a completely unblemished iPhone 5?

I am now on my fifth iPhone 5 (white); each one has come out of the box with either scratches/marks on the back, nicks in the edges or both.

I'm hoping that if I persist I will eventually get one that is ok. I've seen some posts here from people who accept these marks, but, personally, I think if something costs £699 it should be perfect out of the box.

Cheers,

Luke

YEP. Took 2 replacements but that was in september/early october. The issue with scratches etc out of the box should be solved by now.

Just left apple store to get my 2 day old 5 replaced, they had 3 white boxed phones and all had blemishes. Currently heading to a different apple store that's 30 min away because they have 12 white boxes phones and I'll go through all of them until I find the perfect defect free 5.

Was at the AT&T store last night getting my gf the iPhone 5. First phone they brought out had scuffs all over. Second white 16gb was flawless.

I have a black iPhone 5 and the wife has the white iPhone 5 and we picked these up on launch day. I am going naked and the wife has a bumper case. Neither of us have one single blemish, scratch, or flaw. Great phone and no complaints so far.

No phone is going to be "perfect" especially if you're looking for things that may be wrong with it. Mine is "unblemished" but I'm sure if I handed it to you, you would find a ton of things "wrong" with it.

This sums it up to a T.

The more OCD you are, the more likely you are to find a microscopic speck and call it an "unnacceptable defect".

I have personally seen 3 black phones claimed to be flawless (one of whome the owner was even bragging about being perfect to a friend). Within a second of having the phone in close up visual range I was able to see a speck of silver on the chamfered edge.

Moral of the story is, it was "perfect" to him. 99% of the world would find it that way too.

If you are anal enough to return more than a couple of times, you will ALWAYS be able to find a flaw. ALWAYS. There IS no truly perfect mass produced item, just ones with people not anal enough to see the "flaws" that think there are.

Give up now. You'll never be satisfied anyway.

Relax everything will be ok.

I have blemishes on my blemishes, so they negate each other out to produce a blemished phone that appears unblemished.

I mean it's just a phone man.
I find it rather hypocritical, to claim it's "Just A Phone" when Apple hypes their stuff using words like "Magical & Revolutionary".

I've never seen the lines of people like one see's standing in line on release day for "Just A Phone".

I bet Apple would disagree with the statement above, completely. :)

I had a tiny nick on my first white iPhone 5. I got it replaced (not at all due to the nick, though) and i'm pretty sure the nick was my fault as I went case-less for a week or two.

The only visible imperfections i've noticed on my current white iPhone 5 is tiny, almost unnoticeable scratches on the metal on the sides. And it doesn't bother me at all.

I honestly haven't really inspected either of my phones.

I understand that things should come out of the box unmarked, but there's a limit..

Whatever they say it is at the end of the day it will always just be a phone. It's an iPhone not an iPod+Texting+Calling+Apps and it should be judged as so. I don't know why they stand in line for a phone either I would only stand in line for the experience.

Wow I'm surprised they let you open another. I purchased a 64gb black at my local AT&T and when they opened it up there was a chip right next to the lock button and I asked them if they have another that doesn't have a blemish and according to the manager "We can't keep opening iPhones until you find one that satisfies you" which I thought was BS so I had them refund me and reverse the upgrade and got one that same night on the apple website for pickup the next day.

Scratches & scuffs are typical, and not just on iPhone 5's. It's the new Apple standard.

It seems they're taking a new approach. Knowing that some people will accept anything and not want the hassle of returning it, Apple saves a lot of money.

No other company has the influence, power & control over the customer like Apple does. You see in this forum, the people that will make excuses for Apple and yet pay them premium prices.

It's an amazing feat on Apple's part. They're laughing all the way to the bank.

Yup the manager even looked at the phone and seen all the scuffs on it. So he just went to the back and grabbed another.

Its a cellphone made for wear and tear and will show nicks, blemishes etc. over time. It may look new out of the box but it won't for long.

Release day iPhone fine, upgraded my sisters phone couple weeks ago was perfect too! Both UK
