When Apple announced the iPhone X on September 12, the company also unveiled a new type of iPhone case called the "Leather Folio case," which has been specifically designed for iPhone X. Similar to existing wallet-style cases, the $99 Leather Folio accessory features a front cover that protects the iPhone X's screen when you aren't using it, and a few slots for cards or money.

Now that customers are beginning to get their iPhone X accessories in the mail ahead of the smartphone's launch on Friday, November 3, a few unboxing and hands-on videos have been posted on YouTube this week. The first video was posted by Walking Talking Tech, and focused on the iPhone X Leather Folio case in Taupe.

A look at the Leather Folio case in the new Berry colorway was shared by Ian Parkinson.

Japanese site Mac Otakara posted a video to its YouTube channel of the Berry Leather Folio case, providing a quick glimpse into how the accessory's magnets wake and sleep the iPhone X.

Besides Taupe and Berry, the Leather Folio comes in Black and Cosmos Blue. A quick 6-second video showcasing the Cosmos Blue color option can be found on Huiwen Huang's YouTube channel, while the Black Leather Folio case was shown off in a video published by Japanese YouTube channel KAKO.

You can purchase the iPhone X Leather Folio case on Apple.com for $99. As of writing, shipping estimates for Taupe and Black sit at around one week, while Cosmos Blue and Berry are a bit longer at 2-3 weeks. If you're interested in a more traditional case, Apple also sells the iPhone X Silicone Case ($39) and iPhone X Leather Case ($49).

They don’t make one for the iPhone X yet, but $99 will eventually get you an ullu Piggyback which is actually better in that you can remove the “inner case” (which is locked into place with magnets).

That is assuming ullu’s case doesn’t screw up wireless charging.

So will opening the case do the same as the swipe up motion? It would be nice to just open the case and have the home screen appear right away, one less gesture

Interesting. I got my leather folio unopened... I think I'm going to return it. Looks worse than I thought.

I love the thought of these types of cases as it would eliminate the need to carry my wallet with me. However, in the real world it would never work out for me. I'd hate to have part of the case hanging down while I'm trying to take photos or videos. Also, my three year old always wants to take photos with my phone or use it for music and games so no way do I want to hand over essentially both my phone and wallet to her.

Lastly, the price seems a tad high for what this case does. I think it could be a $69 or even $79 case at the most.

I had the leather case on either the original iPhone or 3G (can't remember which) and the leather delaminated from the case. Ever since then I've stayed away from leather. Presumably their construction is better these days but I still have an aversion.

I love the standard Apple leather cases but do not like this one in price or design. I've had no de-lamination and the leather forms a beautiful patina.

is it made of Indian holy cow leather?
Wow this is extremely insensitive.

Charging $99 for a phone case is brave.
Until you drop your phone and this little extra protection stops it from landing directly on the floor and saves the AppleCare cost. And it’s an additional amount of leather.
My only concern is will it demagnetize my credit cards?

Looks like Apple isn't planning on any always on OLED text on this iPhone.

I’ve exclusively used the leather cases since the 6 and love them

Damn $99..... Angela please move on ..... less fashion pricing ....

So..... directly from apple , iPhone x 256, AppleCare and case, £1450

iMac £1049...... Cook's Apple.....

Do you think Angela has any input into pricing the products?

And what do you mean, Cook's Apple?

Like good old Steve Jobs used to to just give the stuff away?

Of course . Have a read what she did at Burberry . £99 for a phone case.... do you think that a tad much?

Truth is , Apple is becoming more and more of a fashion company , Angela's strength .

For all the years I've been at Apple , an that from the 80's, is since cook took over that I have seen value drop and prices constantly going up.

Never really understood the practicality of a folio phone case. I like being able to surreptitiously take a peek screen or get mail, text. Seems harder to do that if you have a cover.
