Bother! Also, the fact I'm.on an iPhone 6 won't help! I think the new jailbreak will only be forthe newer devices - 7 and up.

Thats what's happened with Unc0ver. Only compatible with iP7 and above.

Hopefully the 12 jailbreak when released won't discriminate

So is this jailbreak completely pointless? Assume it is not untethered OR tethered as it is sideloaded and would need to be redone once a week for those who do not have a developer's license.

No, you can get unc0ver jailbreak from Ignition which will let you run it for 365 days without resigning.
