After many reading on this site and others I've kind of narrowed down my monitor choices for my Mac Mini M1 between these two:

One is a 32" rotatable 4K screen from LG -> LG 32UN880 ERGO Monitor 32" UltraHD 4K LED IPS HDR, 3840x2160, AMD FreeSync 60Hz, HDMI 2.0, Display Port 1.4, USB-C, USB Hub, Speaker Stereo 10W, Uscita Audio, Flicker Safe, Stand ERGO @ 834 euros

The other one is a wide screen from Samsung -> LC34H890WGRXEN, Monitor Professionale Curvo 34'' 21:9, UWQHD, 3440 x 1440, Quantum DOT, 100 Hz, 4 ms, 1 USB-C, 1 DP, 1 HDMI, Regolabile in Altezza, Argento Scuro, VESA @ 531 euros

I use my M1 mini mostly for office, internet and programming hence the need to have good text quality and do some photoediting with Adobe Lightroom. Rarely I watch vides/movies on it but most often that happens on my LG OLED TV. No gaming at all.

Unfortunately I could not find a shop to actually see them so asking for your opinion.

Thanks a lot

I've not tried these two monitors but if you want sharp text, definitely go for the 4K (higher ppi) monitor.

If you afford it I would go for a good 4K work monitor and good rotation 1080p Monitor to keep open social media while you work hence the rotational 1080p monitor! If will help you keep going on your work!

"1080p" is the worst resolution ever. And there's (hopefully) literally a million things more important than (anti-)social media that you may want to keep an eye on while working. ;)

Writing from my new LG ... looks awesome, just the chars are a bit small :)

How can I generate a totally black and a totally white screen to look for dead/fixed pixels?

The screen complains that I should have used the provided cables, but I just used a TB3 to DP port cable I already had connected to the Mac Mini M1. Would there be any advantage to use the provided TB3 to TB3 cable?

Thank you all

What setting is it at (in the Monitors preference pane)?

It's USB-C, not TB3 (they use the same connector but are not the same). Using USB-C would allow the built-in USB hub to work without a separate USB connection. Apart from that...

I am using native resolution (not scaled) right now.

So the current Mac Mini TB3/Usbc to LG Displayport cable is ok, right?

I decided I'll run it at the first notch of scaled resolution which is easier for my old eyes :)

I wonder if there's a way to automatically set it at native resolution when certain programs are run full screen (eg Kodi for 4K content or Photoshop/Lightroom) while keeping it scaled for the rest of the stuff.

Thank you
