I have a friend with a 2019 15inch macbook pro. The machine runs too hot and the fans run crazy but its still too hot. This happens in normal use, browsing etc. Q: Is there a way to underclock the machine to make it run cooler ? It does not need to encode video or anything ....

Turbo boost switcher can disable turbo boost, which has a big impact on heat. Volta can besides disabling turbo boost also under volt and limit power (which forces the CPU to even lower maximum frequencies) however it is glitchy and feels very poorly coded on top a background process sometimes start to use all CPU. So cannot recommend, I also think it only support some older CPUs. But turbo boost switcher is reliable and I have the pro version.

I have already downloaded turbo boost switcher and ill be installing it when i get the mac tomorrow, thanks. I found a max tech review that also recommended it.
