My wife and I recently bought an Apple TV. In setting it up, I realized it would be helpful to do Family Sharing and turn on Purchase Sharing as well. So, for example, either account could use Infuse Pro with only 1 subscription. I'm a little more tech savvy so I set myself up as the family organizer using my Macbook (although the rest of this may reveal not that tech savvy.)
I have limited exposure to the Apple's ecosystem, with just a Macbook Air and an ancient iPad. I last had an iPhone maybe 14 years ago (it was a 4S) My wife is a little deeper as she has continually had an iPhone for a number of years; she has an apple card, I don't; she buys iCloud+ storage, etc. [This may or may not be relevant.]
I think I had assumed that this meant if I purchase something (say a movie) it would be show up for her, and if she purchased something it would show up for me. But the thing that wasn't clear to me is that everything seems to be charged to my account -- and the receipts are weird: Yesterday I got an email sent to me but referring to her email, for a subscription to iCloud +(which my wife has) but said it was for "<my name's> iPhone" -- a device that doesn't exist. In talking with Apple support who confirmed that yes the charge was for her subscription, they indicated that they just through the receipt software assumed the family organizer would have an iPhone.
But the big issue is why aren't my wife's subscriptions being charged to the same card she has used for years? Why are they suddenly being charged to my account? I don't feel like this was made very clear when I turned it on -- it says "All family purchases will be billed to your shared payment methods." But as I far as I can tell there is no family benefit to her iCloud+ subscription, only her devices see the extra storage, so it's not a family purchase.
Is there a better way for my wife and I to share content on our Apple TV while being able to use separate payment methods for apple apps and subscriptions?
[There is no prefix for Family Sharing, so apologies if I posted this in the wrong forum.]
